Vivendi Games Offers Up E3 Roster

Vivendi Games, through their Blizzard Entertainment and Sierra Entertainment studios, today unveiled their E3 related line up of upcoming video game titles. Many of these titles have expected release dates of this fall and beyond.

Debuting from Blizzard Entertainment, said Vivendi, is a new World of Warcraft expansion pack for the highly popular MMORPG. Dubbed World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, this upcoming PC title brings forth rumors amongst a fragile peace that the Burning Legion’s war against Azeroth has been rekindled. More details on this, including details for the beta test, will be released later this year.

From Sierra Entertainment come several highly anticipated titles, including Scarface: The World Is Yours, Eragon, World in Conflict and F.E.A.R. 360. Scarface, which is planning for a fall release on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, is an open-ended action title which puts players in the role of Tony Montana, brings together an “all-star” Hollywood cast and has a script drawn up by writer David McKenna of American History X.

Eragon, coming out this fall as well for a variety of platforms, is based on the best-selling book and upcoming 20th Century Fox film of the same name. World in Conflict, coming next spring for the PC, is a strategy title which offers up a Cold War scenario penned by author Larry Bond and features destructible 3D battlefields. F.E.A.R. 360, set to debut by the end of the year, is the Xbox 360 version of a popular 2005 paranormal action thriller set in the first person.

“Vivendi Games has emerged as a leader in top quality interactive entertainment with the number one position in the MMORPG market, and leading positions in PC and console,” said Bruce Hack, CEO of Vivendi Games. “We are thrilled to present a spectacular E3 roster of original properties and entertainment licenses, which reflect the creativity and innovation that are cornerstones of our work.”

A purple E3 logo floats in the air.

For the third year in a row, E3 2022 will not happen as an in-person event. The Entertainment Software Association, which organizes the expo, has confirmed that the physical show has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the virus' new Omicron variant. In fact, the ESA didn't technically confirm that the show will happen in 2022 at all.

The news was broken by VentureBeat, which released a statement from the ESA regarding the yearly video game press conference. “Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022,” the ESA tells VentureBeat, “We are nonetheless excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.”
