Xbox One beats PlayStation 4 and Wii U to win the presidential election of Facebook ‘likes’

When it’s not running self-activating commercials featuring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, the Xbox One is busy sitting pretty as the president of Facebook “likes” in the U.S. A fun bit of research from the Movoto Real Estate Blog recently examined the state-by-state breakdown of the “like”-based adoration for the three major video game consoles (Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U) and found that Microsoft’s dog is winning that fight.

Microsoft’s Xbox One is the most “liked” video game console in 22 states, followed by Sony’s PlayStation 4 with 19 states. Nintendo’s Wii U doesn’t lay claim to the most “likes” in any state, and nine states were ambivalent.

“What’s really interesting is that Xbox One, with a few exceptions, seems more popular on each of the coasts, while PS4 has created a strong following in the heartland,” writes Andy Eddy, a content creator at Movoto.

Nevada is the biggest fan of the Xbox One, while Mississippi is the least interested in Microsoft’s gaming console. Using the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey data from 2008-2012, Movoto finds that 1.9 percent of Nevada’s 2.8 million residents “likes” the Xbox One, while 1.0 percent of Mississippi’s population “likes” the console on Facebook.

The picture is similar for the PlayStation 4, which got “likes” from 1.9 percent of Nevada’s residents and 1.0 percent of Mississippi’s residents.

Despite trailing in the race for Facebook “likes,” the PlayStation 4 continues to beat the Xbox One when it comes to sales in the U.S. The PlayStation 4 finished May as the top-selling video game console in the U.S. for the fifth straight month, according to NPD Group. Overall hardware sales rose 95 percent year-over-year to $187 million in May.

Liam Callahan, an NPD analyst, attributed the strong console sales in May mostly to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but also noted strong year-over-year growth for the Wii U and PlayStation Vita.

Head to Movoto’s blog post to see interactive maps with detailed insights into the state-by-state breakdown of Facebook “likes” for each video game console.

MLB The Show 23 returns to Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch this March
Jazz Chisholm's cover art for MLB The Show 23.

Sony San Diego Studios announced MLB The Show 23 today, and confirmed that it will launch across all major PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo systems on March 28.
No new platforms were added this year, so PC players aren't getting in on the fun. Still, this announcement makes it clear that MLB The Show is a multiplatform series across PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms for the foreseeable future. Xbox's version of the trailer also confirms that MLB The Show 23 will be on Xbox Game Pass at launch, making this first-party Sony series a day-one Game Pass title three years in a row.
MLB The Show 23 - Cover Athlete Reveal
As is typically the case with sports games, MLB The Show 23's reveal was primarily focused on its cover athlete. We learned that Jazz Chisholm Jr., a second baseman for the Miami Marlins, will grace the cover of the game. Like last year, the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will cost $60, while players  on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S without Xbox Game Pass will need to pay $70. So far, no new gameplay features have been teased, although a blog post confirms that cross-platform multiplayer, saves, and progression across all versions of the game will return this year.
So far, there's not a lot that actually seems new about MLB The Show 23, but this reveal concludes the genesis of a new era for the long-running baseball series. MLB The Show 23 will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on March 28.
