Product Description
The Rokinon 20mm F1.8 Wide Angle Lens is its newest, full frame compatible wide angle prime lens. Its bright F1.8 aperture secures a fast shutter speed, even under restricted lighting conditions. It creates outstanding bokeh by highlighting the main object effectively. The lens comes complete with front and rear lens caps, lens hood, lens pouch..

It was a toss up between this Rokinon 20mm 1.8 and the 24mm 1.4, but I ended up with the 20mm because it was close to the perspective I had with my a6000 +12mm (cropped 12mm = 18mm).
Initial thoughts when unboxing was this lens is pretty sizable and weighty. Definitely a bigger profile from what I was used to. I found myself supporting both body and lens when walking around handheld, but that may be because I’m used to a smaller setup. But balance isn’t really an issue for me as I shoot 90% with a tripod. You are taking away from the whole compactness of using a mirrorless system when it seems like you adding 2lbs and 10inches. Again, my opinion, I do like the look of a big lens..
The build quality is great, with great controls. Focus ring is smooth but isn’t as damp as the Samyang 12mm (which I like). I found myself hitting the focus ring out of position more often. One plus is that infinity is truly on the infinity mark, unless the samyang 12mm. Image quality is also great, though when shooting portrait orientation there is a noticeable distortion towards the edges, but thats expected with a wide angle lens. Decently sharp wide open and impressively sharp a couple stops down…not sure what else I can say. This is a good buy, especially compared to the other full framed lenses out there where you’ll be paying a mortgage.

Update: the lens went on easier after awhile using it. It's not a bad lens but for me the colors out of it seem a bit flat but that is something easily fixable in post. The price has dropped, I paid full price for it on the great reviews so if you're interested in this lens it's a good buy now at $439 at the time of this update. Certainly a bargain compared to what you'd pay for most full frame lenses. It just won't match the higher quality ultra-wides but then you also aren't paying what those lenses cost.
Sharpness is a mixed bag. It's almost always sharp in the center but the corners have astigmatism that never goes away resulting in some softness even stopped down. This should only be an issue if you're on a high megapixel body (a7r, D850, etc) or if you're really picky. On my a7III it's not a huge issue, only noticeable when I pixel peep the corners. Samyang's MTF charts for this lens confirm my findings. MFD is great but you really need to stop the lens down to get good sharpness and contrast here.
Aberration control is about average for a modern lens, expect some CA in high contrast scenes. Coma control isn't all that great thanks to the high astigmatism, but it's low enough by f/2.8 to use for astro. Veiling flare resistance is excellent while ghosting control is only ok - with the sun in the frame you can provoke a small rainbow ghost in the middle and a large crescent ghost on the edge of the frame.
Image rendering is only average. If you've used a Zeiss or a Leica lens you'll know what I'm talking about here. Contrast could certainly be better SOOC, I find I have to apply more post processing to the images out of this lens than with my Zeiss lenses to get the results I like.
Overall I like this lens. For the price it's great in the areas that count, however if you shoot on a high megapixel camera you may want something sharper.

Just be careful with the back element since it does pop out the lens body.
