About this app

What birds live near here? Where can I find new birds to add to my life list? BirdsEye is the only field guide that gives you an instant answer to this question, from your phone at home or around the world!

BirdsEye is a simple but essential tool for birders and naturalists of any level, and is finally available for Android! BirdsEye is the ultimate birding field guide that shows you where the birds are, and helps you identify birds around you by showing you what other people are reporting. Identification has never been easier!

BirdsEye also provides essential distribution, behavior and habitat text from noted field guide author Kenn Kaufman and other regional experts to help you find the bird once you get to the right spot. Stunning and detailed photographs from many top birders, bird photographers and guides will help remind you of the field marks you're looking for. BirdsEye is perfect for identifying the birds that are coming to your feeder, preparing for a trip on the other side of the world, or just want to know what is in your local patch.

The free/basic version of BirdsEye gives you instant access to the 100 most common birds in your area, which is great for beginning and casual birders. Paid subscriptions options give you access to every species in your region or worldwide.

Our mission is to promote citizen science projects like eBird. For about the price of a cup of coffee per month, signing up for a subscription helps us continue to improve BirdsEye and pursue our mission. Thank you!!

Update on 11/22/2021: After Nov 7, 2021, renewal of my annual subscription, the app stopped working. It won't link to my eBird account. The worst part, multiple email to support went unanswered. There is no other way to contact them. Birdseye, please contact me to fix the problem. Or I have no choice but cancel my subscription. -- Birdseye user of 4+ years Very useful tool, particularly the function giving me Birds needed for each location. Can't give it star because the graphics can be better.

So awesome in many ways, but some key usability improvements would make it a 5-star app. The main issue is in the lack of a map view in the Nearby and Rare Bird Alert views. If I'm thinking about where to go birding, I'd love to see what locations have rare or needed birds. Unfortunately, this is a laborious process in the app consisting of navigating to the Nearby or Rare Bird Alert views and clicking into each species of interest and then clicking into individual eBird lists. A map please!

Great concept and memberships offer useful tools, but very glitchy. -Occasionally in Browse Nearby, a species appears, but when I go to the map, there are no pins for that species within 500 miles. -Sometimes House Sparrow will show up on needs list, many with many duplicate photos. -Often the app will say that more species are available with subscriptions, which I pay for. The purchased tab is blank despite having paid for and used the subscription. Others mention similar complaints.

What's new

Thanks for updating to BirdsEye 1.2.

In this version, we are introducing a new powerful tool called Smart Search, to search nearby species by color, size or habitat.

Use color, size and habitat to quickly narrow down the list of nearby birds to find exactly what you are looking for. Just stepped off the plane in Sydney, Australia and want to figure out what that blue and white colored swallow is? A couple taps in BirdsEye and you'll be adding the Welcome Swallow to your list!
