The packaging feels significant. It is thicker cardboard and comes with very well written instructions. There were two magnets on the back and no buttons... so I figured I would read the directions before setting it up. To get it in to pairing mode, you just remove the two magnets that are taped to the sensor and it automatically goes in to pairing mode. I have never used another device that worked this way and it worked well! There is a tiny LED light on the front of the sensor, in the middle of the star looking symbol, that is used as an indicator.
I ended up installing the sensor bar on the top of my door with the tiny square magnet stuck on the trim. I am so happy I don't have a big white box sticking off the front door and trim anymore and my wife is happy now, so... happy life. The sensor is now invisible to me and my guests and I'm really happy about that!
I use this sensor several different ways with my Smartthings hub. This sensor will automatically turn on my lights over my front door when it is opened, I can also arm my Smartthings alarm so if this sensor is opened while I'm gone it activated a siren, turns on every light in my house and alerts my phone.
As far as the installation instructions, they were very detailed and encouraged very careful planning because the sensor components are pretty small and require pretty exact placement. I am not a careful planner, so I kind of winged it and tested it and it worked great for me! Line up the star symbol on the metal magnet with the star on the front of the sensor bar so it properly detects open/closed status. The magnet must be within 10mm for this sensor to work. The overall height of the sensor is about two credit cards stacked on top of each other, so check that you have enough clearance on your door! Here are the exact dimension of the product: 7.7"L x 0.6"W x 0.12"H magnet: 1.2"L x 0.43"W x 0.04"H

I started out with one that I bought in late 2016 and installed in January of 2017. That went well for a year, so I bought and installed another one in January of 2018 for another bedroom, then a bought a 3-pack in April 2018 for the living room, but ended up only installing 2 of the 3-pack.
The three devices that I installed in 2018 began reporting low battery earlier this year. The seller blamed my network, and I couldn't disprove it, although I do have a Z-Wave Plus repeater less than 10 feet from one of those Strips, and a different brand of door sensor around the same distance from the repeater that has no problems.
Then, the one I installed in 2017 started reporting low battery, as well, and then disappeared off the network. I'm completely certain that this isn't a network issue, as the sensor is attached to the window office. My hub is in the very same room, not 6 feet away.
If that's not convincing enough, the seller of the 3-pack asked if I could move one to the same room as the hub to test that. I didn't want to ruin what's clearly single-use adhesive, but I still had one completely unopened from that 3-pack, so I set it on my desk next to the hub, paired it, taped the magnet back to the sensor so it would show closed, and left it alone. 3 months later, it's showing 75% battery.
So, in short, as of November 2019:
- I installed one in January 2017 that recently died after reporting 1% battery
- I installed one in January 2018 that's reporting 25% battery
- I installed two in May 2018, near a repeater and a different sensor that works great, that are now reporting 25% battery
- I set up the last one in August of 2019 and *taped it closed* and it now reports 75% battery
I might conceivably end up with a combined 10 years' battery life between all 5 sensors.
I really enjoy the concealment available with these and the first year or two went great, but at this point, it looks like I have about $250 worth of trash to throw out and replace.
However, there isn't another sensor this thin and waterproof so I would say it could have its uses. Also its out of stock everywhere right now so they may have stopped making it. If the battery was replaceable or even rechargeable it would be nice. But a $40+ sensor that you may have to throw out after 15 months is pretty bad.

Worked perfectly from then on, when the battery was down to 25% in 2019, I ordered a replacement, but the battery didn’t hit 0% until a year later. Even then it was still working, but I replaced it anyway. It is now connected to my ISY hub, feeding into OpenHAB.
The new one was sitting on a shelf in my basement for a year, and reports 75% battery on install. Still, should last 4 years based on previous experience.
So, on a fairly frequently used metal front door, I got 5 years use, and even then, the strip was still working when I replaced it.
Overall, an excellent product.
In closing I give these a rating of 1/5 and only because the idea has merit. The reseller was helpful with replacing the one unit so I would give them a 5/5 for service.
Very thin, great for sliding closet doors.
Very reliable (for as long as it lasted).
Paired promptly with my Hubitat C-5.
Unfortunately:
It was very expensive for a contact sensor. I suppose I can live with that given the niche I required it for.
This lasted 40 months in a warm, interior home environment. In my case the cost works out to $21/Year. If I had to spend that much on every contact sensor in my home, automation would not be affordable.
These are just not practical in their current form. If it truly had a 10-year lifespan I would have few or no complaints.
