I went with this because mainly of my obsessive compulsiveness, with the placement of M.2 slots on-board. Also, This is cheaper and has better on-board audio, eliminating the need for buying one. Ultimately, this fits my build, without wasted feature. (See "My Build" below if interested).WHAT I LIKE │ + │+ Thunderbolt 3 certified USB Type-C. One of the few Z170 which has it currently.+ Two NVMe M.2 ports, for RAID M.2 SSDs (like the Samsung 950 PRO).+ Creative Sound Core3D sound processor.+ Looks better in person than in photos.+ The metal shields around the PCIe slots.WHAT I DON'T LIKE │ × │× Not enough information and instructions, considering the abundance of new tech on-board.× Not much of a fan of the color red.× GIGABYTE doesn't seem to like responding to questions.× Shared bandwidth on the last PCIe x16 (x4 lanes) and one of the M.2.× The on-board LED color and audio panel are not independent of each other.× The on-board LED color is yellowish and definitely not accurate.× After updating the BIOS, the USB won't be active until after the BIOS prompt. This made it impossible to use a keyboard to enter BIOS. I resolved this by removing the CPU cooler internal USB connection.DIFFERENCES WITH GA-Z170X-Gaming-7- GT has two audio op-amps vs. one on the Gaming-7.- GT has more MOSFETS, chokes, caps. This is really a slick little motherboard. Has more features than I needed, but definitely had all the features that I was looking for. Supports the i7 quad core CPU that I had, running at 4Ghz. The CPU has 16 PCIe lanes, and the on board chipset has 20 more, giving me a total of 36 lanes. I needed 16 for my Nvidia GTX1080 card, and 4 more for the M.2 hard drive that I used. The rest are for the future. Leaving me 16 more lanes. That is a lot of PCIe power.

I have 16GB of 2133Mhz DDR4 memory in this. It is just blazing fast.

As mentioned above, this thing has two M.2 hard drive slots between the x16 PCI slots, giving you the ability to use the latest in flash hard drive technology. These slots give the drive x4 PCIe throughput, and I am seeing 3.2GB/s write speed and 2GB/s write speed on my 512GB drive. That is crazy fast, much faster than the throughput of the best SATA/SAS in RAID.

As for connectors, it has more than you could ask for. It has HDMI for the onboard video card in the CPU, however, I don't use this. But, for USB, it has TONS. It has USB2.0/3.0/3.1 USB Type C, and some other USB for direct access to some A2D converter? That is just on the back panel. Then, the motherboard has more USB connectors for the front of your case.

It has 3 SATA Express ports on the back, and 6 SATA ports inside. That is more than you should ever need, and supports hardware RAID for the SATA and the M.2 drives.

It has 2 channels of DDR memory, with two slots each, giving you incredible throughput. It has 7.1 channel surround sound, too. For a middle level motherboard they really packed it with features.

One more cool thing to mention is the LED coloring on the motherboard. Around the edges are LEDs that I assume can be controlled. They just happen to match the color and pattern scheme that I am already using, so I didn't change them. It looks really slick. I have it sync'd to my liquid cooler, video card, and case. My computer looks like a work of art.

PROS: This has pretty much every connection you could want, and many of each. Has support for SLI, all different types of USB, including the new Type C. Has tons of SATA including hardware raid. But, the best is the 36 lanes of PCIe when paired with the CPU. Plus, the two M.2 hard drive connectors give you mind blowing hard drive performance. My windows computer boots to password, after the BIOS screen, in 3.5 seconds. After the password I have full control of the machine, with no hourglass, after another 2-2.5 seconds. That is a cold boot, not a restore from sleep.

CONS: What can I say? It has everything I need. Maybe it would be nice to have more RAM slots, but I believe it is limited by the CPU/Chipset. Really I have nothing bad I can say about this motherboard.

Bought this board, I-5 6600 CPU, Corsair Spec-01 Case, Cool Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU FAN, MSI GT740 Video Card, Hyper X 2x8=16 GB Ram DDR4, Windows 10 Home 64 bit, Thermaltake 650Watt power, Samsung 500 GB SSD, WD 1T HD, and I'm very happy, everything fits with an inch to spare, everything works, now I can edit MP4 video clips without the slowness of my 5 year old I-7. This I-5 has faster bus speeds, doesn't crash, the Windows OS loaded without needing to go into the BIOS, the USB 3.0 front port (connected to MOBO by the cable, is as fast as the back ports (35 MBps, that's 35 MegaBytes per second, don't believe the stories about 5GBps, not true, use a 3.0 thumbdrive to transfer your files, 26 GB takes 45 minutes to upload off your old computer USB 2.0 and 13 minutes to download onto the new computer USB 3.0), the hard drive writes 140 MBps to the SSD drive thru the internal SATA 3.0 port/connectors but there's no external port/connector for eSATA on this new MoBo, only USB 3.0 connectors and one 3.1 Gen 2 port/connector for which thumbdrives aren't for sale, yet, connect your screen to the GT740 it RUNS in the default mode till you run the drivers disk (after Windows 10 is installed), use a USB plug in keyboard to install Windows 10: arrow keys, tab, enter, small a to check boxes.... to navigate through the Windows 10 install process, custom build and you can easily say no to all the cookies (do you want Microsoft to gather information about you? I sure don't) you choose between 32 bit and 64 bit, both are on the Windows thumbdrive, serial number in box $120.... the OEM version of Windows 10 is only $92 but no thumbdrive, you have to download the OS from Microsoft. The Drive trays pull out from the side (somebody finally used their brain), makes it easy to install HD's without needing to fit it past cables (was always a pain), the SSD is held in place by 4 screws into the pop-out tray, if your HD doesn't line up with the little studs on the side of the plastic tray, cut them off, the HD won't move around it fits tight, put the backplate for the CPU cooler on with the longer stud risers before you install the Mobo, and after screwing in the Mobo in the case, hookup all the wires (the wires are labeled so its easy to find where they plug into), then plug in the RAM, then assemble the CPU cooler's radiator, clip the plastic fan back on the radiator (there's plenty of room for 3 more case fans if you want your computer to sound like an airplane taking off), then install the video card. EVERYTHING FITS. This is an excellent computer for under $900, the I-5 6600 with the Gigabyte MoBo is a perfect combination.

Purchased this for a first time gaming PC build. I shopped around quite a bit and realized there are so many options to choose from, that you can easily find yourself in a black hole of motherboards trying to pick the right one. I highly recommend the use of PCpartpicker.com to ensure you select compatiable parts for your build. From there, I discovered this motherboard, which provides more than enough PCIe lanes, looks great, and matches my colour scheme. All you need to install is a screwdriver (I use a set specifically for PC-building), and the install was very easy for me. Clearly a high quality product- recommend to anyone.

Placa Base brutal!!!

Great board, decent connectivity (u.2 and m.2, sata express). RAM works at 3000 out of the box at XMP profile. Eveything was good to go at default settings. Lots of LEDs, but can be disabled in bios.

Build quality seems very good, the board feels very sturdy, looks good and the components seem decent.
