Great product - Highly recommend
Did a lot of research to try to figure out the best rooftop cargo box to purchase for 8,000+ mile road trip. Finally settled on this one based on prior reviews, size and price. Delivery was superb. It was scheduled for 7:00AM - 9:00AM and at 6:45AM, I received a phone call saying the driver will arrive in 30 minutes. Sure enough, the driver was at my door before 7:15AM and the product was delivered hassle free.On the floor, it appears really large and I questioned whether or not I made the right choice in selecting the XXL. However, once I mounted it to the top of my 2011 Nissan Armada, it was a perfect fit and allowed me to open the lift gate as well as the sunroof without issues. Loading was easy and we were able to fit all of our bags, for a family of two adults and four kids (3 teenagers and a pre-teen).On the road, there was no noticeable wind noise even with the radio off. Most of the states we traveled through had posted speed limit of 70 - 75 mph and I often stayed 5 - 10 miles over the post speed limit. The impact in terms of fuel was negligible and I estimate maybe a loss of 1/5 miles per gallon. This could be because of the added weight more so than the carrier itself as we had two coolers fully loaded inside the car, cases of water, juices and other items as well as the bags loaded into the carrier. Our road trip took us from West Palm Beach FL to Atlanta GA, St. Louis MO, Yellowstone National Park WY, Seattle WA, San Francisco CA, Yosemite National Park CA, Los Angeles CA, San Diego CA, Las Vegas NV, Grand Canyon, AZ, New Orleans LA and back to West Palm Beach. While driving through Wyoming, we encountered heavy rain and high winds. The carrier held up great. No water got inside and all of our belongings were safe and dry. On the way back, we hit heavy thunderstorms around Childress, TX and again, no water got inside the carrier. The only issue I experience through both storms is the impact of the high winds. However, this was also the case when driving through the mountains of Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon and California and is expected. To compensate, I decreased my speed and the wind impact wasn't as great. Also, loved the fact that it opens on both sides, so when the valet guy pulled up in the left lane and the passenger side of SUV was in lane of other cars pulling in and out of the hotel, I was able to just go on the drivers side and load from there. Also, safety feature that allows locking only when all latch points are line up and engaged makes it great and the fact that you cannot remove the key unless all latch points are engaged and locked is the best part. The carrier is flexible so depending on how much stuff is loaded inside, you can slightly twist the shape to make the overlapping top fit the bottom. To load on top of the car will require two people as it is long and has a bit of weight to it. Loading it onto the SUV was easy and took less than five minutes, once I pre-adjusted my crossbars. In conclusion, I do not regret my purchase and can't imagine how I would have been able to do this trip without the carrier as it freed up valuable space inside the car for juices, snacks, etc. and allowed everyone the comfortable space needed for this long trip. I highly recommend this rooftop carrier for the size, the price and the performance.

Thule Force cargo box (Large, model 628) mounted to 2012 Dodge Durango (Citadel) with satellite radio antenna and integrated roof rack option.

SHORT REVIEW:
Just completed 2000 mile round-trip vacation and this was a great purchase. Wish I bought it years ago. Easy to mount, easy to load. Secure. Many very thoughtful design elements. Solid at 80mph+ on highway and went through brutal rainstorm with all contents dry. Held 2 large (80-100lb+) dog crates (folded) plus a bunch of additional duffel bags. Length accommodates our skis & snowboards, too.

LONG REVIEW:
I spent a lot of time trying to insure this cargo box would fit our Durango. Dimensions for mounting are on Thule site or through Amazon site...easy enough to verify our roof rack (integrated Dodge item) would fit this cargo box and clear the gate. BUT, no one could verify if it would interfere with satellite radio antenna. So, I ordered the Thule Force Large and I bought a stubby antenna same time, just in case. I learned 2 things. First, the box fits perfect, can slide forward enough to avoid antenna by about 1". Second, don't buy a stubby antenna. It isn't needed with this combination of car/box, plus the cargo box sits so low, even with the stubby antenna mounted you cannot slide the box back...it hits the stubby antenna. I assume newer Durangos may have a 'fin' type satellite antenna that may be lower so the box could slide over? I don't know. But I do know I was deciding between Force L and longer boxes and the Force L was the right choice.

Mounting & Loading:
Mounting was simple, the clamps open up with twist of knob, then slide forward and back. Hoist it up there (I am 5'-5", I did it myself, cumbersome but not difficult), set on the roof rack, move the box around till you have it aligned the way you want, tighten the clamps. Couldn't be simpler. Dual entry helps on this, too, as I stood on right rear door sill to tighten 2 clamps, then same on left rear door for other 2 clamps. Easy to do with box opening from either side. Also, I specifically did not buy Yakima cargo box when I read I would have to purchase some other accessory to mount first. That seemed to defeat the point of buying our Durango with the integrated roof rack. The cargo box can only be opened by key, and key can only be removed when locked, so you cannot accidentally lock the key inside. Some other reviewers had issues getting it to lock, I did briefly then I balanced the load out a little and compressed items a bit and no problems. You can't overfill like a suitcase and then rely on sitting on it to close it. If you feel like you are forcing it to close it I found it didn't want to lock. Like anything else, you figure out what works. Note as well we used duffel bags, not hard sided luggage or roller carry-ons. I am sure those would work, but we had 2 folded dog crates in there first, which limited headroom above them, so duffel bags seemed better in our case and they worked fine so I will do same in the future.

Can't say enough about the entry & locking from either side. What a smart feature. On our way home some dude parked close to our passenger side, so I loaded from the driver side. No problem. Cool rotating strut holds the lid open regardless of which side you open from. Simple, elegant design and it works well.

I did see other reviews with concerns on rain entry and the lid not staying closed? We drove 80mph+ without any issues; you could see the front edge right through the sunroof so found myself checking it occasionally. And part of our drive we hit a wicked rain & wind storm (many pulled off), we kept on going and the contents stayed dry. I saw mention Thule may have done a design improvement to add reinforcing bar in the front (mine has this) and I guess they resolved it as we had no issues whatsoever with lid opening or water ingress at high speed.

Some questioned the sturdiness. I feel it is sturdy. Looks good I think, as well.

Some questioned the price for a 2 piece plastic box. It is pricey, no doubt. But after using it on this trip (it allowed us to bring our 2 Labradors on vacation and still allow my 15 and 16 year old kids to be comfortable in their seats) it was worth it for our family. As a family we drive a lot on our trips; from Chicago to CO and FL on annual basis....with skis & snowboards or loads of beach stuff. I am kicking myself I didn't buy this before.

We lost about 3mpg on the highway. Otherwise didn't notice it was there.

This is a great cargo box, I compare it below to its main competitor the Yakima Skybox.

1. Excellent Quality Build. The key is solid unlike the yakima competitor & does not feel like it is going to break. . The internal hinge is much better designed than the skykima & does not collapse if accidentally both sides are opened at same time. Its actually very difficult to open both sides at same time because the key cant be removed unless one side is locked down.
2. Its not Lightweight, one does need 2 people to carry it or put it on top of a car. However it is easy to install, and we have put it on & off 4 times in the past 2 months without thinking about it. It shouldnt take more than 5 minutes.
3. The hooks attach to the crossbar by way of a twist knob. These are very easy to operate yet tighted securely (trust me the skykima required herculean strength!)
4. The only disadvantage to this box is that it is more difficult to fit cars than the skykima as the max width between the underside hooks is less. We have a Hyundai santa fe LWB & it barely fit. Furthermore the back of the skykima has a wedge cutaway so that there can be nearer proximity to the tailgate.
5. The latches on the sides of the box do intrude into the overall placing of luggage, which can be a bit os a pain, especially if like me you are not tall & cannot see over & into the box. However thats an unavoidable problem.

In end we had bought the Yakima , returned it, bought this instead, & are very very happy with this.

Product fully aligned with description & great aesthetic appearance.
2 key comments i would made there :
1. As i did own the previous version, the newer one is actually more flimsy as the upper part does no longer get re-enforcement from side to side ....
2. I wish the rails could allow more room for translation considering that newer car come with pre-set positions for roof bars.
