Although a bit slow getting started it was, in my opinion worth the effort. Dickens does a wonderful job of allowing us to enter into the realm of an earlier London, Great Britain, and France. Following characters from multiple facets of the time before and during the French Revolution and 'Reign of Terror' his writing becomes a rich tapestry exposing beauty, horror, arrogance, betrayal, love, and sacrifice. All in all a wonderful and uplifting tale.

I have always wanted to find the time to read this book and as usual with Charles Dickens, I was not disappointed. We 21st century readers do have to struggle through the unusual old English terms and phrases but if you persevere you will get the hang of it. It is a touching story of honor and friendship and how even among the wickedness of humanity, love still prevails.

Charles dickens takes the story of the french revolution and breathes life into it- forming complex characters and a thrilling story-line. This masterpiece of literature takes the reader through a tale of love and hate, of mercy and of judgement, of death and of life. I would totally recommend this book to teens and adults alike. Charles dickens is truly one of the world greatest writers of all time.
