Perfect, Satisfying "Cozy Armchair" Surreal Puzzler

Perfect, Satisfying "Cozy Armchair" Surreal Puzzler
I purchased this game earlier in 2014, and have been recommending it to everyone ever since. Apparently I forgot to review it.This is a beautiful, surreal puzzler, well worth the asking price! It is unusual to find a game that is so well designed. The graphics and sound effects are terrific, and the ambient soundtrack is soothing yet mysterious.As others have pointed out, if you are familiar with MC ESCHER then you have an idea of what the mechanics are already. There is no failing, no dying, no penalty other than the inability to proceed without solving a level.Like many successful games, there is indeed a storyline here, which is only given to you in pieces. World of Goo, MYST, and Machinarium are similar in many ways.Monument Valley is a short game, which usually translate into a reduced value, but here, it doesn't. There also isn't much replay value EXCEPT that this is a game you'll want to return to for a relaxing yet engaging hour or so every few months.There are no problems with permissions, but it does have Flurry; normally (as in almost always) I dock a star for Flurry and other similar spyware, but in this case the game earned that star back fully.BOTTOM LINE: Get it. Even at full asking price it is worth it.

Update for 6-25-2015_ A new section titled Ida's Dream has been added to the puzzle. I had to delete my Monument Valley app with the Forgotten Shores update from my device. I then reinstalled the entire app again. After the installation I had to click to have the app reinstall my purchases and it re-added Forgotten Shores and added the new update of Ida's Dream onto my tablet. The graphics and game play on Ida's Dream is amazing and difficult and I am still working my way through this new update. This is a great app and one that I enjoy a lot and I recommend Monument Valley to you. Get ti and you will enjoy it. I actually purchased the app long before it became a FAOTD and I still play it. It is a great mind puzzle and it opens up you mind and thinking to resolve the puzzle in 3 dimensions.

I completed Ida's dream and I enjoyed it. At the end it advises you that Ida's dream was created for charity and it encourages you to donate a worthy cause that is close to you and that you believe in. This is a nice thought from the developer.

Update for the new add-in levels for Forgotten Shores added 11-22-2014:

I have just purchased the new update called Forgotten Shores. It requires an in-app purchase price of $1.99. It contains 8 new levels to the game and they are well worth the price. The artwork is beautiful and the puzzles are challenging. I enjoyed playing them all. The last level Nocturne is particularly challenging but fun. Overall it took me about 90 minutes to beat the new levels and I spent most of the time on the 8th level.

This app is like a piece of art turned into a game. Beautiful artwork, special effects and music. I like this app a lot and I recommend it to you. Here are the titles for the new levels:

The Chasm
Serpent Lake
The Thief
Halcyon Court
The Lost Falls
The Citadel of Deceit
The Oubliette
Nocturne
------------

Update 11-19-2014:

I just wanted to state that this game for me is so challenging and fun that I actually reinstalled it over a month ago and played it completely through a couple more times. My grandson who is 11 years old saw me playing it and he took the tablet from me and he was better than I was at playing the game. He also quickly finished it.

This game has marvelous graphics and the thought and design effort put into the development of this app is just amazing. I recommend it to you as a lot of fun. I enjoy it!

+++++++++++++++++

This is a very unique game that forces you to think in three dimensions and use your spatial skills in resolving three dimensional shapes and forms. The graphics and music of the game are professionally done and the game held my interests so much that I could not stop playing it. The time just flew by!

The app only has 10 levels and I found it to be very short. I enjoyed it so much that I was upset when I finished it with about 2 1/2 hours of play. I spent a lot of that on level 6.

The app is a different type of mind teaser that I really enjoyed. It was pure concentration and solving the maze without a time limit and without being killed every 30 seconds. I do wish that it was longer and I think for the price it should have been. I have to admit that I would still have purchased the app as I enjoyed it that much. Rarely do I get a game that I become so engrossed in that I can't stop playing.

The app is large at 159 MB but it automatically installed 141 MB into my SD card and 17.65 MB onto my device memory. When I finished the app the memory used 160 MB by saving some additional data to my SD card and device memory.

Permissions:
* Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
* Full internet access
* View network connections
* Prevent tablet from sleeping.

The game does use both Amazon and Flurry Analytics to monitor your game play behavior and how its software is performing. Since the permissions are so limited there is no personal data being viewed. The app also uses Amazon Game Circle and Google Play Services.

I liked the game so much that I immediately looked to see if the developer had released any more apps like this. Unfortunately I did not find any. This app is a very good one and I enjoyed it a lot.

For me, this app is truly remarkable. Whether you're familiar with the work of M. C. Escher or not, you'll be amazed by Monument Valley and their fantastic levels, which are both stunning and beautiful to look at, and really fun an entertaining to navigate through. It's a sort of magic to play this game.

I'm really glad I could get this app, (thanks amazon for the recommendation every time I purchased or installed an app). At first I was hesitant because of the price, but once I played it, boy oh boy, this was the best 4$ ever spent. Great app, 10 awesome brain buster levels, top notch design, nice sounds to go along, and since it's pay app, you don't get any annoying adds (which would be a crime to interrupt this candy eye game with annoying pop-ups), no lives, that means you can play as much as you wish, no need to wait for a refill or spam friends on facebook for lives.

If you like puzzles, get this app. Starting at level 4, you'll see it shine. The first three levels are to get familiar with the game and its mechanics, on level 4 is where the magic begins, and the real multi-part, brain teasing, long levels start to get serious. Every level being better than the previous. Once I started playing, I was submerged with the game until I completed it (3 or 4 hours).

After that, I started sharing my experience with my friends, and sharing my phone so they could give it a try to (it was fun to see the smile on their faces while they were playing). Next step is to get the Forgotten Shores expansion (at a 1.99$ for another 8 levels, it's a sure deal, you get almost the same amounts of levels (maybe more, considering every level is harder than the previous, and the first three are tutorial-like), for half the price. Yes I'm in. (will update once I've played the new levels to reflect this)

Go Ida, Go! - Only downside is that I found out there's an extra level, Ida's (Red) Dream, which I'm afraid I won't be able to play, at least for now.

Update 01/12/2015: This update comes very late, but I had to do it anyways, and better sooner than later :) I did purchase the expansion a few days after I completed the game (lots of times). And I have to say it is absolutely WORTH IT. I loved it as well, there are fewer levels but all of them have a higher complexity and length, so that level things up. And it was only $2, half the price than the base game. So it is totally a win - win situation.

I'm also very happy that I finally was able to play Ida's Dream level (not red, but still same content :)). Wonderful level as well, and the best of all, free. I've played this game to completion dozens of times, actually when I got my Fire HD 7" (2014) one of the first things I did was install this app, just to marvel myself on this stunning game on a good 7" screen. :)

I've keep sharing my phone and tablet with friends for them to try it and everyone keeps getting amazed and mesmerized by it. What's best, you can get it now on Amazon Underground for free, so no excuses now. I'm not even mad that I paid for it and now is free, since I think it was totally worth it, and I'm happy to put my grain of sand with the developers (being a developer myself, it is very rewarding to be able to purchase apps from time to time).

I wish they made new levels, expansions or a MV 2, though I think that it is not in the plans at the moment (even more considering they recently launched a new game). But one can only hope! :) the same way they first launched an expansion, and released the Ida's Dream level afterwards, maybe they'll come up with more sometime in the future. (even more considering the hype around the game, even featured on House of Cards! :D)

5.0 out of 5 stars A journey through space and time / Un viaggio attraverso lo spazio ed il tempo
Reviewed in Italy on April 17, 2015
This game is pure art. Ten levels, a journey through time and space. The price you pay for this game is worth every penny: beauty and design at their best. The game could be completed in a hour. Google for reviews before getting it, but you won't regret it if you have a taste for beauty.

Please note that Android for kindle and other devices is slightly different. If you do not own an Amazon device, do verify if the app will work in your device first, otherwise get it from Google Play. Do not downrate an app if it doesn't work; it's your duty to check first, not developers' fault :(

****************

5.0 out of 5 stars Manipulate impossible architecture and guide a silent princess through a stunningly beautiful world.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 29, 2015
Was watching this as it was recommended from another game and it dropped in price by £1.50, normally I tend to get free apps but the price drop tempted me to buy @ 99p. Well worth buying even of you pay more, an addictive little game that makes you think - what you see is not what it is - perspective!
Novel and highly playable game that makes you stop and think on some levels easy on others, I had no problem with download or play (to Kindle Fire). 10 levels of game play from quite straight forward to some that require a little back and forwards to get to where you need to go, playable in an afternoon because once you start it becomes addictive :-) .

Would recommend this game to others for some puzzling little moves to keep you occupied. Good graphics, nice and colourful game to play.

*** Forgotten Shores which is and additional set of levels is equally as good as the original game (even if I did have to pay 50p more for the add-on than I did for the game :-( ) . once again though it has short game play as you want to keep playing to see what happens next. (apparently there was an Ida's Red Dream bought out for Aids Charity but not available for Android machines, I am sure that the creators could easily make this available for Android with a little effort and the charity would benefit greatly).
Look forward to future add on levels and hope the creators do not charge too much for the ass on making it an assessable game for all at a fair price!
