Flash Forward is a show about possible (and not so possible) future scenarios. What would the warranty on a sex robot look like? How would diplomacy work if we couldn’t lie? Could there ever be a fecal transplant black market? (Complicated, it wouldn’t, and yes, respectively, in case you’re curious.) Hosted and produced by award winning science journalist Rose Eveleth, each episode combines audio drama and journalism to go deep on potential tomorrows, and uncovers what those futures might really be like. The future is going to be weird, so let's get ready for it together.
-
1. HOPE
Welcome to the end of Flash Forward. This is the first episode in our three-part show finale! How do you have hope for the future?
-
2. PRECIPICE
Why does it always feel like we’re on the verge of something — great or terrible? And how do we resist the pull, the lull, and the stress of the void?
-
3. PUPATION
This is the very last episode of the show ever. And on it we tackle the big, BIG question: how do you change the world?

Updated review
For people in the future: This show is based around time travel. A possible future reality is explored each episode. It begins with a enticing intro sequence with voice actors to make you feel fully immersed into the future era. After the scenario has ended (can have good/bad endings), we join with Rose who deep dives into the logistics of this future happening with experts in that field.
Ngl my heart sank when I heard the show was ~ending. I’ve been an avid listener for almost a year and haven’t missed a single episode! This series was of such high quality and was eons above every other podcast on this app. Thanks for everything, Rose and everyone one else that made this podcast what it is today.
I look forward to 2.0 (if there is one)
A real gem!
A friend recommended this podcast and I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the depth and breath of discussion, the imaginative way of presenting a “future scene” and giving some good consideration to consequences. I am a regular listener of RadioLab and they need to take note - it is so refreshing to hear critical minds and let us come to our own conclusions. It’s serious substance but with a nice thoughtful and open-ended way of unpicking each imagined future. By reflecting on what the future might be, we can much more critical about the present - and feel empowered.
I am a bit late to the party, so I get to binge listen. 💃🏽
Love it
Honestly one of my favourite podcasts!
