I purchased these thinking I was going to get an inexpensive set of decent quality headphones to play with, but, it wasn't so.Opening the Akai packaging I noticed that the twist ties that hold the headphones in place in the packaging had been undone, I guess that should have been my first clue, but the ear cups were in their bags and the headband also had it's plastic wrap on it.Before even plugging in the headphone's cord I decided just to see how it would fit and feel....but, the fricking left side ear piece just fell off in my hand. I did NOT exert undue force on it, I just grabbed it to slip over my head like any of the other dozen+ headphones I currently own.It FELL APART, the plastic bosses that accept the screws in the plastic part that attaches the headphone pivot to the sliders just flat snapped with only the force needed to spread the headphones to slip on one's head. This is totally unacceptable, it's almost as bad as the Koss PRO/4AAAT set that I got from Amazon a while back...those, at least, I got a chance to listen to before they failed...these? Nope, still haven't heard them.I know the bargain price looks attractive, and yes, I could repair these and make them better than stock, but why should I have to on something that is supposed to be brand new?I think I'm going to pass....Addendum, September 1, 2019I ended up buying two more of these Akai headphones and both were perfect, at the time of purchase their cost made this a "no-brainer"...I have replaced the stock earpads with Chinese made angled earpads and have done no other mods to them...yet!Their sound is full and robust, almost bordering on too much bass, but not quite, and treble is clean and we'll extended.I have used these with three different tube amps, one hybrid, and two solid state, all specifically designed as headphone amps only, and at the outputs of my reel to reels and Behringer ADC and have been well pleased with the sound quality.I'm upping my rating on these as two out of the three I ordered weren't bad, and are one of my go to headphones for rock...my HiFiMan HE400i and Grado SR225e w/bowl pads may work better for some other genres, but these Akais are perfectly fine with me for when I feel the need to boogie!

Okay so, I just got these. Been listening to a variety of music for the past hour. These is my opinion.

They are great for the price. They really do hit the lows. Currently I am overpowering these and its handling it like a champ. My system is capable of driving 600 ohm headphones which is very bad for MOST 32ohm headphones as its just too much power. However, these handle it like a champ. But not only that, I have boosted the 31hz range by 24db and 60hz by 6db, and volume at max, there is ZERO distortion. It handles it like a champ which is just insane. If you have ever sat in a vehicle that had a really nice system with subwoofer, with those two ranges boosted, its like being in the car. Its crystal clear so far and I've had absolutely zero sound related issues.

On that note, unlike my my expensive sennheisers, they aren't as comfortable. HOWEVER, this is because I have relatively big ears, so I can feel it touch. I am looking into modding these to give the cup surround more meat. Right now they have about a half an inch of padding when I am used to phones with about 1" of padding.

The 10hz to 30khz is legit. Using testing equipment (and seeing rolloff) it does indeed hit the notes from top to bottom and vice versa. So, they are damn good. Compared to say 169.99 sennheisers, these sound slightly better, but are nowhere near as comfortable as the sennheisers.

Be wary of the reviews here folks, as most of the reviews right now are amazon vine members who received these headphones for free to review through the program. As a third-party here who has used a lot of headphones over the years, my full review is below. Basically I loved these headphones with one small caveat in comfort concerning the earcup swivel that made me return them.

Sound (5/5): For the price I think the sound from these is par none. Amazing clarity and balance, especially when used with a DAC, though I mainly use them at work without one. The lows are tight but have a little more kick than my sennheisers, which I find enjoyable, especially when listening to electronic or rap music. However the mids can feel a little washed out at times, but using an equalizer should help remedy that issue. At the end of the day, the sound out of these is still unbelievable for $100 and accommodate a wide variety of musical genres and gaming needs.

Comfort (3/5): Like with any pair of cans, comfort is subjective and comes down to head and ear size. These headphones are definitely made for people with larger heads and ears, which was perfect for me and I found them incredibly cozy for closed-back headphones. However, I had serious issues with the earcup swivel, which is very rugged and stiff, and doesn't allow the earcup to conform to the angles of your head easily, and means you can't easily move one earcup to the side of your head and listen to your surroundings without some awkward slipping and discomfort. I use these for work and constantly need to keep one earcup off to listen and talk with co-workers, and these made that almost impossible without slippage and discomfort. They also didn't like to hang around my neck without rotating around into weird flat angles and choking me.

Build Quality (4/5): Great build quality. It feels cheap but that is simply because they are using light, strong materials to maximize comfort. Very rugged looking and feels like they'd really last.

Not quite as good as my Bose nor Seinheiser which I use for critical listening and production, but these are quite amazing for the price. I can use them for on-the-fly work such as DJing or travel listening. Lightweight, noise isolation is pretty good, don't sweat much, comfy to wear for a while (1-2 hours), a touch big on my head (even on smallest setting), not much leakage.

Can hit most highs and most lows with decent mids. Slightly muffled overall (flat spectrum) so some instruments get surpressed to reduce depth of sound. But overall great 3-d sound, not tinny or bass-dampened.

Comes with decent quality fake leather pouch with drawstring, 2 cords (coiled/straight) which could be longer, and an adapter. Fold up nicely into itself by pushing two cups together and up -a bit tricky but space-saving.

I ordered these as a cheap alternative to other studio/over-ear headphones. They were on sale for only 20 in a flash sale.
First time I took them off my head (gently, mind you) the right swivel joint snapped in half where screws are meant to hold it together. I was prepared to send them back but, after bolstering both joints with a few layers of electrical tape, these headphones have turned out to be quite sturdy.
Sound quality is great for general use (gaming, musical instruments, tv) but they have minimal noise isolating qualities, which is different from what I've read from other posts and something I was really looking for. Initially they were also very quiet/weak when connected to my iPhone at full blast, but after trying these out on my guitar amp they loosened up and sound output got much better on all devices.
If you have medium to large sized ears, I recommend buying the lyxpro has-30 headphone pads to add to their comfort a bit (I got them for 9 bucks). My last photo shows the default pad on the left and the lyxpro pad on the right.
If you find these headphones for cheap (20-50 bucks) and don't mind reinforcing the joints to minimize any joints breaking, I recommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Audifonos super comodos, de buen material y muy buen sonido!!
Reviewed in Mexico on November 27, 2017
