As always WD are extremely reliable. The 4TB My Passport is probably the fastest portable drive (Non SSD) compared to Seagate Ultra Slim or Toshiba etc. The copy speeds are always the best and even more enhanced when writing to a high end HDD. Had the drive for almost a year and nothing has gone wrong (I've also got a 750GB WD portable from 2008 with no issues and that's been put through the ringer - over 15TB written) Great drive and love that they color code the cable with it. Drive is fairly heavy and wider than previous models. But I like the look better anyway.

Bought this as an external HD for PS4. Though it originally said that the device wasn't supported when I plugged it in, following the instructions under the notifications led to a very simple and quick instillation. The device works fine and for the price? It's a great value. The 'official' sony licensed game drive that just came out runs about the same price but for 2TB's less than you get if you'd get the 4TB here.
The only annoying thing is it's LED indicator is very bright and will flash on and off while the PS4 is in Rest Mode, but.. that's nothing tape can't fix.

My computer was filling up with a lot of pictures and documents, and so I decided to buy this. It is a huge amount of storage, and I will be able to use it for the rest of my life. I'm so glad I have a new place to store all of my pictures and documents without them slowing down my computer. The sleek design of this and the compact casing is one of the most beautiful Hard drives that I've seen. So glad I took a chance on this my passport. I would definitely recommend it to all my friends if they needed a hard drive of a great amount. Thank you Western Digital for a great product.

Many issues. Worst: Unstable connection.

First, this drive did not work well as a backup for data I had on cloud services. It kept telling me that it could not find my accounts with the login information that I provided. With some help from WD customer service, I realized that the message regarding my accounts was a mistake, because the data actually had been backed up. But one of the things a drive is supposed to give you is peace of mind - not performance that conflicts with the messages it gives and leaves you wondering: Is my data backed up or not?

The drive did work fine, however, as a new storage option (as opposed to backing up what I had in the cloud) for about six weeks -- long enough for me to put a lot of data on it. Then it started disconnecting whenever it was even slightly moved or tilted. (The cable was still in place in both ports, but the connection started to come and go while I was using the drive.) Not good for a drive that's supposed to be portable and somewhat sturdy. Customer service at WD initially tried to blame my computer's ports because a "quick scan" diagnostic found nothing wrong within the external drive. However, I insisted on trying a full-scan option, and of course the drive disconnected during the course of that scan. That caused the diagnostic to declare that the drive had bad sectors, and that activated my warranty. But now, before WD will send a replacement, WD says I have to first go to a recommended data-retrieval service AND send the drive back to WD. Unless I can persuade them to come up with an alternative, that will mean days if not weeks without a drive or my data, PLUS the uncertainty that comes with sending out the data that is on the malfunctioning drive - both from a security perspective and just from not knowing what data I'll get back. I would very much prefer that they just send a new drive, so that I can try to transfer the data myself, holding the unstable drive very still. If I end up having to buy a new drive, it will not be a WD MyPassport.

So this is a right out of the box review...I have no information regarding the longevity or performance thereafter of the device.

It's sleek, has the weight of a quality hard drive, and performs as well as it looks.
It backed up my laptop in about 3.5 hours (roughly 50gb of information) and had very high download speeds when I was transferring large video files from my laptop to the device.
Much better than ANY hard drive I had previously owned. (The last time I bought a hard drive it cost $120 at BestBy for a 2tb toshiba drive that broke after 3 years)

I had gone through 3 Seagate hard drives (4TB size) that either didn't work out of the box, or died within a few weeks. I decided to go with this one because WD has fared me well in smaller sizes with my Xbox One. The price for this is good, the white one doesn't scratch or smudge with the half glossy look, and it actually matches the Xbox One console pretty well in aesthetic! It recognized immediately on plugging it into my system, and loads games quick! I have no complaints after a few weeks and it's already lasted longer than my Seagates. Perfect for any Xbox One gamer looking to expand their memory!
