What Happened: You know how annoying it is to set up a new profile on an Apple TV? You’ve always had to sign in with a full-blown Apple ID, even if it was just for a guest or your kids.
Well, Apple is finally fixing that.
- In the new tvOS 26.2 update (which is out for testers right now), you can just… create a profile.
- No Apple Account needed. You just go to Settings, hit “Create Profile,” type in a name, and pick a rating.
- And the best part is for parents: you can check a box that says the profile is for a child.
- When you do, it automatically locks the content to a PG rating, and you can tweak it from there.
- When that kid’s profile is active, all the grown-up stuff in the Apple TV app just disappears. Poof. Gone from the Store, gone from the Library, only kid-friendly shows are left.

Why Is This Important: This is a huge deal for parents. It’s the closest Apple has ever gotten to a true “Kids Mode” for the Apple TV, something people have been begging for for years.
- It means you can finally hand over the remote without having to stress or create a whole separate Apple ID for your five-year-old.
- It’s also just a massive win for convenience. If you have guests over, they can have their own profile now, so their viewing history doesn’t mess up your recommendations (and vice-versa).

Why Should I Care: This means you can share an Apple TV with anyone.
- Your family, your roommates, even just occasional guests – this update is going to make your life a lot easier.
- Parents get real peace of mind, and guests get their own little space without needing to be part of the Apple ecosystem.
What’s Next: This update is in testing right now.
- But it should roll out to everyone around the middle of December.
- Apple also says these non-Apple ID profiles might show up on other devices that have the Apple TV app, like your smart TV, which would be super handy.
