If you ever needed a reminder that Michael Caine is an actor’s actor, then watch The Muppet Christmas Carol. Caine gives an excellent performance in this movie as he plays Ebenezer Scrooge absolutely straight. Most of Caine’s co-stars may be famous Muppets, but Caine himself never breaks character as Scrooge or winks to the audience. Caine’s absolute commitment to the role elevates everything else about the movie.

The script is actually pretty close to the original story by Charles Dickens. On Christmas Eve, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future visit Scrooge and warn him to change his ways before it’s too late.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (April 2024)
Nina Dobrev and Aaron Eckhart in The Bricklayer.

Sometimes, the most popular movies on Netflix are not the best movies on the streamer. Case in point: M. Night Shyamalan's Glass is currently at No. 3, and that film somehow pulled off the unique feat of retroactively making Shyamalan's previous movies in his superhero franchise, Unbreakable and Split, a lot less fun.

That's why we're specifically putting the spotlight on a terrific movie, Amadeus, as it celebrates its 40th anniversary this year by streaming on Netflix. We're also featuring The Bricklayer, an action thriller that will probably be on top of Netflix's movie charts by the end of the weekend. This film barely registered at the box office, but that's never stopped the Netflix effect before.

The best movies on Disney+ right now (April 2024)
Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow with Orlando Bloom's Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Disney+ is among the most accessible platforms to stream the best movies. There's plenty of variety available even outside of Disney's trademark animated offerings. Fans can find dozens of hours worth of exciting features, including Marvel Studios' superhero adventures, Lucasfilm's Star Wars epics, and inspiring National Geographic documentaries.

Even so, the service's dense catalog can make it overwhelming to choose from. There's a movie for everyone, however, and this monthly updated guide will help you pick out some of the best movies on Disney+ to watch right now.

The best animated movies on Netflix right now
Dracula and the monsters in Hotel Transylvania.

Netflix may have an impressive lineup of animated movies, but it's kind of coasting on its reputation in April. The only new animated additions are the first two Hotel Transylvania movies and a classic from the '80s called The Land Before Time. And while those are good selections and excellent options for families, they're a little light compared to the movies that Netflix added during the early months of 2024.

As long as Netflix has both Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it's going to have the best selection of animated movies this side of Disney+ and Crunchyroll. But Netflix can't hold on to those titles forever, so hopefully we'll see a few more original titles before the end of 2024. In the meantime, check out our complete list of the best animated movies on Netflix right now.
