Three months after their debut at HIGH END Vienna, Bowers & Wilkins’ 800 Series Diamond D5 speakers are now available to buy. The seven-model range arrives during the company’s 60th anniversary year and replaces the outgoing D4 generation.

The lineup includes the 805 D5 stand-mount speaker, four floorstanding models, and two center-channel speakers for home theater systems. At the top sits the 801 D5, while the HTM81 D5 and HTM82 D5 handle center-channel duties.

The cheapest stereo model is still $15,000

Getting into the new D5 stereo lineup isn’t cheap. The 805 D5 starts at $15,000 per pair, while the flagship 801 D5 reaches $65,000. Here’s the full U.S. pricing:

  • 805 D5 $15,000
  • 804 D5 $25,000
  • 803 D5 $35,000
  • 801 D5 $65,000
  • HTM82 D5 $12,000 each
  • HTM81 D5 $15,000 each

The speakers come in Stealth Black, Warm White, Light Walnut, and Dark Walnut finishes. Bowers & Wilkins has also tightened panel gaps, hidden more of the cabinet fixings, and revised several exterior details compared to the D4 range.

There are plenty of changes inside too

As we covered when the 800 Series Diamond D5 debuted in June, much of the engineering work focuses on controlling unwanted vibration and cabinet resonance.

A new Space Frame Bracing system reinforces the cabinets from the rear, while stronger Matrix bracing surrounds the individual drive units. The floorstanding models also use redesigned aluminum plinths with tuned-mass damping.

The 804 D5 gets a separate aluminum enclosure for its Continuum Cone FST midrange driver. Bowers & Wilkins has also revised the Diamond Dome tweeter grille, drive-unit motor systems, crossover components, and internal wiring across the range. The 800 Series Diamond D5 is available now through Bowers & Wilkins dealers.

Google is reportedly developing a new Google TV Streamer, and this time, the biggest upgrades could be about making your television more useful without reaching for the remote every few minutes. The upcoming device is expected to add built-in microphones for hands-free Google Assistant commands, presence sensing, a faster processor, and more storage.

According to a report by 9to5Google, the next-generation streamer will retain the current model’s familiar design, although its body will be slightly narrower. There is no confirmed launch date or pricing yet, so anyone waiting for an upgrade will have to hold on a little longer.

Galaxy Studio could be Samsung’s biggest audio comeback in 11 years
Samsung has spent 11 years away from over-ear headphones. Galaxy Studio may end the drought
Samsung Level Over inside white

Samsung has spent more than a decade making Galaxy earbuds, but its audio lineup had a very clear gap. The company doesn't make any proper pair of over-the-ear headphones. Though this hole might be filled soon.

Android developer and leaker @evowizz says Samsung’s upcoming over-ear headphones could launch as Galaxy Studio. The name carries a little more weight than your average leak because Samsung filed a US trademark application for GALAXY STUDIO on September 14, specifically covering headphones, headsets, and earbuds.

Apple Welcome Home product launch event event scheduled for October 13

Apple has another hardware event on the calendar, and the name is doing very little to hide where the company is looking next. Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Greg Joswiak says the “Welcome Home” event will take place on October 13, putting the spotlight squarely on the company’s long-rumored smart home plans.

Three products look like the obvious candidates. Apple is expected to reveal a second-generation HomePod mini, a refreshed Apple TV 4K, and the long-awaited Apple home hub. It could be Apple’s biggest home push in years.
