This news comes from an email the company is sending to some early buyers of Roku 4, according to Cord Cutters News. “You were among the first to buy the Roku 4, our first 4K Ultra HD player,” the email reads. “We want you to know how much we appreciate your support for innovative technology.” The new models were released last week.
The discount takes $50 off the Roku Ultra’s retail price of $130, bringing the price down $80. That’s the same price as the new Roku Premiere which, unlike the Ultra, does not feature HDR (High Dynamic Range), a Micro SD slot, or a USB port. For users already on the fence about the new player, the discounted price might be just enough to spur the urge to upgrade.
The Roku Ultra is the company’s most powerful streaming box to date, featuring 4K UHD resolution at up to 60 frames per second, complete with HDCP 2.2 and HDR. In addition to HDMI connectivity, the Roku Ultra features a dedicated optical digital audio output, Ethernet, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
Who is receiving the email and who isn’t seems to be a difficult guessing game for the time being, as some users who bought the Roku 4 the day it came out haven’t yet seen an email. The company won’t likely send this offer to many Roku 4 buyers — $50 off a $130 player released last week is a substantial discount, after all.
If you haven’t yet received the email, there’s a chance it still may come — just make sure to check the email account you used to register your Roku. If the email does arrive, you’ll need to act on it fairly quickly. The offer is only good for those who purchase the new model from the Roku website by October 26.
