Were you an early Roku 4 buyer? Check your inbox for a discount on the new Roku Ultra

If you just bought a Roku 4 and are kicking yourself now that the new models have been released, this probably isn’t going to make you feel any better. Roku is offering discounts on the new Roku Ultra to some buyers of the Roku 4, but only those who bought the streaming box shortly after it was released.

This news comes from an email the company is sending to some early buyers of Roku 4, according to Cord Cutters News. “You were among the first to buy the Roku 4, our first 4K Ultra HD player,” the email reads. “We want you to know how much we appreciate your support for innovative technology.” The new models were released last week.

The discount takes $50 off the Roku Ultra’s retail price of $130, bringing the price down $80. That’s the same price as the new Roku Premiere which, unlike the Ultra, does not feature HDR (High Dynamic Range), a Micro SD slot, or a USB port. For users already on the fence about the new player, the discounted price might be just enough to spur the urge to upgrade.

The Roku Ultra is the company’s most powerful streaming box to date, featuring 4K UHD resolution at up to 60 frames per second, complete with HDCP 2.2 and HDR. In addition to HDMI connectivity, the Roku Ultra features a dedicated optical digital audio output, Ethernet, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

Who is receiving the email and who isn’t seems to be a difficult guessing game for the time being, as some users who bought the Roku 4 the day it came out haven’t yet seen an email. The company won’t likely send this offer to many Roku 4 buyers — $50 off a $130 player released last week is a substantial discount, after all.

If you haven’t yet received the email, there’s a chance it still may come — just make sure to check the email account you used to register your Roku. If the email does arrive, you’ll need to act on it fairly quickly. The offer is only good for those who purchase the new model from the Roku website by October 26.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will get 45W charging, One UI 4.1
Digital renders of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in Phantom White and Green colors with S Pen against a white background.

Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S22 series at its Unpacked 2022 event next month. While the company has already primed our anticipation by a sudden announcement of its Exynos 2200 SoC which will power the Galaxy S22 in certain regions, it is tight-lipped about the upcoming flagship phones. Despite that, almost all of the aspects of the Galaxy S22 series have been revealed courtesy of a wide range of leaks, with the latest one adding information about the charging speed and the software on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

As per MySmartPrice and tipster Ishan Agarwal, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will bring support for 45-watt fast charging. It must be noted that the Galaxy S20 series was the last flagship series from Samsung to sport 45W fast charging and the company reduced the charging rate on the  Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S21 lineups to 25W while adding support for the latest USB charging protocol, i.e., USB PD-PPS (Power Delivery Programmable Power Supply).
45W fast charging limited to Galaxy S22 Ultra?
MySmartPrice's leak corroborates a previous leak from another tipster, Roland Quandt, who shared the image below of the 45W charging brick for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. As expected, the charging brick will be sold separately since Samsung does not include a charger in the box of its flagship phones.

Roku revamps its midrange lineup with the Streaming Stick 4K and 4K Plus
Roku Streaming Stick 4K plugged into a TV.

Roku's fall update is in full swing, first with the introduction of Roku OS 10.5, and also with a refresh to the midrange of its line of streaming media players. New to the Roku lineup are the Roku Streaming Stick 4K, and the Roku Streaming Stick 4K+.

Both are of the stick variety (as opposed to the little deck of cards shape in the Express line), and both sport 4K resolution, with support for Dolby Vision and HRD10+. Both boast a new quad-core processor that Roku says is 30% faster. More important, probably, is the revamped wireless receiver, which Roku says "offers up to 2x faster Wi-Fi speeds." That's not really how Wi-Fi works -- and the devices leading up to this refresh already were using Wi-Fi 5 (aka 802.11ac), so we'll just say that they're "better" for now.
