How much does Disney+ cost? Plans, prices, and features explained

Are you looking to binge-watch some of your favorite childhood movies or occupy your children for a couple of hours with more Star Wars and Marvel content than they’ll even know what to do with? Disney+ might be the perfect solution. If you’re considering buying a subscription, here’s what you should know about the price, plans, and different special features of the streaming service.

There are lots of changes coming regarding the cost of Disney+ in the upcoming months.  The Disney+ pricing model is:

There’s no minimum commitment to get this price, and you can cancel at any time. There is also a new Disney+ ad-supported version launching in December. The cost will be $8 a month, replacing the previous basic Disney+ plan.

While the Disney+ catalog isn’t yet as deep or as wide as that of Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, Disney makes sure you’ll get a lot of great features to compensate as it grows its content choices.

Every account can stream in Full HD, 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and IMAX Enhanced, depending on the title and streaming device. Dolby Atmos also makes an appearance, though titles that support this amazing surround-sound format are limited to newer productions.

You can run up to four simultaneous streams, which should help when the family can’t agree on what to watch. With up to seven user profiles per account, you won’t have any trouble keeping recommendations relevant for every family member, and it’s unlikely you’ll hear screaming over who raced ahead on the latest season of your chosen binge show.

Even more with Hulu and ESPN+

But wait, there’s more! Because Disney owns Hulu via its purchase of 21st Century Fox, you can add a Disney+ subscription to your Hulu account. Disney also owns a majority share of one of the biggest sports broadcasting brands: ESPN. But if you sign up for Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu, you can save on these services’ separate costs. All three will currently run you just $14 per month with ads or $20 per month without ads. On December 8, however, those bundle prices will be as follows:

  • Disney Bundle Duo Basic, which includes Disney+ and Hulu (both with ads) for $10 per month.
  • Disney Bundle Trio Basic with sports which includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ (all with ads) for $13 per month.
  • Disney Bundle Trio Premium with Disney+, Hulu (both with no ads), and ESPN+ (with ads) for $20 per month.
  • Legacy Disney Bundle: Disney+ (no ads), Hulu (with ads), ESPN+ (with ads) for $15 a month — note that this plan will no longer be available to purchase or switch to on Disney+ after December 7, but existing subscribers can keep it at the new price)

That said, if you need Disney content for your children and then sports or more mature content for adults, these bundles are a valuable deal. You will have the chance to access all of the services at a discounted price, all through one single interface.

Is the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundle worth it?

Whether or not the triple bundle is worth it ultimately comes down to whether or not you will use all three.

  • Disney+ (no ads) currently costs $8 per month, increasing to $11 in December 2022
  • Hulu’s basic ad-supported package (the one in the duo and triple bundles) costs $8 per month
  • ESPN+ also costs $10 per month

If you plan on getting all three, a bundle will save you significant money per month — if you’re a sports fan and plan on getting streaming services for the family, it’s a good deal. Remember, many of these prices are changing in December, as shown above.

How to get Disney+ for free

There is no longer a Disney+ free trial. Disney+ previously offered a free trial option to new subscribers, but as they are now one of the most popular streaming services, they have removed the free trial for new customers. There is still one option to get Disney+ for free:

Verizon

If you aren’t interested in paying for the Disney+ service but you are a Verizon customer, you could be in luck. All current and new Verizon users with unlimited data plans have the opportunity to get six months’ worth of Disney+ entirely free.  When the six months end, though, the deal is up. Disney+ will start charging users the regular subscription costs, so be sure to unsubscribe if you’re uninterested in the service or if it doesn’t fit your budget. You may find, though, that the service is well worth the price.

The best shows on Disney+ right now (February 2024)
Two of the clones from Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Disney+ doesn't have as much original programming as it used to, and consequently, there's not as much incentive to stick around on a month-to-month basis. But fortunately, February does bring a handful of new and returning shows that should prove to be enticing for subscribers. Star Wars: The Bad Batch is coming back for its third and final season on February 21, and next month, Marvel's X-Men '97 will revive the world of X-Men: The Animated Series.

In the meantime, Disney+'s February premieres include National Geographic's Genius: MLK/X and an ambitious new animated miniseries called Iwájú. Beyond those three series, keep reading for the rest of our picks for the best shows on Disney+ right now.

YouTube TV: plans, pricing, channels, how to cancel, and more
The YouTube TV on a Roku TV.

When you think of streaming video, you think YouTube. And so YouTube TV — Google's live TV streaming service — very much just makes sense for a lot of people. Designed for those who want to cut the cord and ditch their cable or satellite subscriptions (and known in the industry as a multichannel video programming distributor, or MPVD), YouTube TV competes in the same arena as other streaming television services like DirecTV Stream (formerly known as AT&T TV Now and DirecTV Now), Sling TV, FuboTV, and Hulu With Live TV.

And YouTube TV offers a unique mix of features that make it very appealing, so much so that it's now the No. 1 service in the U.S. in terms of the number of paid subscribers, with more than 8 million subscribers as of February 2024 — up more than 3 million since Google last gave an update in mid-2022. The popularity is due to several factors. YouTube TV is easy to use. It's got a selection of channels that's competitive with all its rivals. And the YouTube TV price is competitive, too. You're able to watch YouTube TV on pretty much any modern device. And the fact that parent company Alphabet (aka Google) has been marketing the heck out of it the past few years certainly hasn't hurt, either.
