NAD Updates Reciever Operating System

A major benefit of the T 773, T 763, and T 163 is the capability for software upgrades and it is NAD’s first major operational software upgrade for these three units. An assortment of operating andset-up features are now possible along with the addition of two new surround formats – Dolby Digital Pro Logic IIx and Dolby Pro Logic IIx. Both formats process stereo and 5.1 signals into a 6.1- or7.1- channel output. Users can choose Movie or Music modes to tailor their listening experience to the source material. For two channel signals Dolby Pro Logic IIx Music mode features threeadditional user controls; Dimension, Center Width, and Panorama. Dolby Digital Surround EX is also now selectable from the front panel or the remote.

The Set Up menu has a more ergonomic interface with more flexible options, which includes increased control of the independent Zone 2 audio and video outputs simplifying custom installations. Zone 2can be powered by either the main HTR2 remote or the ZR 2 (separate Zone 2) remote control. There is both Fixed and Variable second zone volume control. When set to Variable the second zone volume isadjustable via the ZR 2. When set to Fixed the second zone volume is set to a preset level that is selected in the Zone Settings within the Set Up menu. The Fixed setting is most appropriate when aseparate amplifier with its own volume control is being used for the second zone. Additionally, either Speakers A or Speakers B can be assigned as active when the second zone powers on.

The new Enhanced Bass setting allows full range operation of all the speakers with the additional bass contribution of the subwoofer. In most AVR’s and surround preamps, when the speakerconfiguration is set to Large, the subwoofer is not active. With the new Enhanced Bass activated, when one or more speakers are set to Large, the subwoofer is also active for maximum bassoutput.

In addition, it is now possible to rename inputs using the remote to enter characters and numbers. Up to five user presets can be set that holds in memory speaker configuration settings. With the newsoftware upgrade, all units now come with Quick Start A/V Presets for five of the most common speaker setups – 7.1 Large Speakers, 7.1 Small Speakers, 5.0 Large Speakers, 5.1 Small Speakers and 4.1Small Speakers. These pre-configured settings further simplify set up, particularly for first time users.

All other features and specifications are the same including the power ratings on the T773 and T 763 AVRs. The T 773 delivers 110wpc of continuous power with all seven (7) channels drivensimultaneously at rated distortion into 4 or 8 ohms. The T 763 is equipped with six channels of amplification for rated continuous power of 100wpc.

The T 773, T 763 and T 163 offer the an array of surround formats with Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS ES, DTS NEO:6 decoding along with 7.1 Matrix, and now Dolby Digital PLIIx and Dolby PLIIx along with the NAD EARS circuitry for creating natural surround sound from any format input, 7.1, 6.1, 5.1 and 2.0 stereo, digital or analog.
