Your best buds for life? OnePlus’ Bullets V2 earbuds are stylish, inexpensive

OnePlus Bullets V2 - Best Buds for Life
OnePlus has unveiled a successor to its $15 Silver Bullets earbuds from 2014 to much fanfare and hoopla. The new Bullets V2 are more stylish, and just a tad more expensive.

Earbuds at this price point — $20 — aren’t exactly a dime a dozen, but OnePlus thinks Bullets V2 will be your “best buds for life.” The company says it has collaborated with German audio experts at LOFO, “who have over 88 years of experience in diaphragm technology,” to create an aryphan polyarylate diaphragm. In acoustics, a diaphragm converts vibrations to sounds.

“We designed the OnePlus Bullets to perfectly compliment your OnePlus 3. … The Bullets take your OnePlus 3 audio experience to the next level,” according to the OnePlus website.

The cords are flat to restrict tangling, and it also houses a three-button remote that lets you answer calls, pause songs, and increase or decrease the volume.

The Bullets V2 also have silicone tips, a 9mm dynamic driver, 24 ohms impedance, 107dB of sound pressure, and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack connection, not a USB Type-C one like many had hoped. All of that culminates to offer “richer bass, more delicate treble, and a smoother midrange.” Most earbuds at this price don’t sound good, so we’ll have to wait and see if OnePlus can offer something that stands out.

But good luck getting a pair — the Bullets V2 are available for purchase at $20 on OnePlus’ website, but they’re already out of stock. The company built up hype for the announcement with a teaser earlier in the week — that and the low-price point probably explains the lack of stock.

OnePlus Buds Pro 2’s spatial audio makes me want to ditch the AirPods Pro

The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 Bluetooth earbuds are among a half-dozen gadgets OnePlus launched at its Cloud 11 event. These earbuds intend to elevate your sound experience with a rich and highly customizable audio profile, Google's Fast Pair support, high-fidelity (Hi-Fi) audio through the LDAC and LHDC Bluetooth audio codecs, Dolby Audio, and noise cancellation.

While these features have essentially been carried over -- and slightly improved -- over the first generation of the OnePlus Buds Pro launched last year, the Buds Pro 2 are equipped with spatial audio capabilities that help create a realistic and experiential 3D audio space around you. Along with spatial audio, the earbuds also support head tracking to simulate an ambiance that changes as you move your head around.

OnePlus Buds Pro 2 to support Android’s new spatial audio feature
The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 in black and green.

OnePlus has already let it be known that its next wireless earbuds, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2, are just around the corner. The new buds, as well as the OnePlus 11 smartphone, will officially launch at the OnePlus Cloud 11 event on February 7, 2023. But until now, we've been in the dark on almost all of the details. And while we still don't know key facts like pricing and battery life, OnePlus has announced that the new noise-canceling buds will be among the first to support Android 13's spatial audio feature.

OnePlus says the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 -- the successors to the OnePlus Buds Pro -- will "set a new standard for spatial audio stability and compatibility" when they launch outside China on February 7, 2023. The feature will work with audio that is spatial-ready, like Dolby Atmos Music, but OnePlus is also integrating the ability to up-mix standard two-channel stereo into a virtualized spatial presentation.

OnePlus expands low-cost Nord range with $39 Nord Buds
Model wearing the OnePlus Nord Buds in their ear.

OnePlus is expanding its Nord product range beyond smartphones with the introduction of the OnePlus Nord Buds in the U.S. and Canada. The Nord-branded true wireless earbuds stick closely to the Nord formula used for phones, meaning they have good specifications for a low price. The Nord Buds come hot on the heels of the most recent OnePlus Nord phone released in the U.S., the Nord N20 5G.

So what do you get? The Nord Buds have a 12.4mm titanium driver in each earbud, along with a total of four microphones and some special AI algorithms that OnePlus says will make calls sound crystal clear and as free as possible of wind noise. The buds are made from plastic with a metal-look finish, which is the same process used on the more expensive OnePlus Buds Pro.
