Want to shape the future of PlayStation Vue? Try canceling your subscription

playstation vue adds multi view on ps4 timeline
PlayStation
Last month, Sony’s PlayStation Vue Internet TV streaming service finally became available nationwide — something cord-cutters located outside of a handful of major metropolitan areas had been anxiously awaiting since the service’s introduction last year. While the service is now available to all, it’s still got a long way to go, and now it seems we might have an idea as to where it is headed next.

PlayStation Vue customers trying to cancel their subscription are presented with a survey asking what might change their mind, and this survey was recently shared on Reddit, and spotted by Exstreamist. Some of the options are commonly seen on exit surveys, but others could point to planned additions to the service.

First, customers are asked if lowering the subscription price by $5, $10, or $15 dollars would be enough to change their mind. The service currently starts at either $30 or $40 per month, depending on whether or not the customer is located in an area where local channels are offered. The lower-priced Core Slim package was introduced last month when the service expanded nationwide.

The more interesting questions come in the form of whether additional channels would be enough to woo customers. League sports networks like the NFL Network, local sports networks like MSG, and Spanish-language networks are listed as options, while A&E, History Channel, Lifetime, and FYI are presented together as a single option.

Interestingly, ABC is also an option, but ABC, ESPN, Disney and more were added to the channel lineup shortly ahead of the nationwide launch. This is no guarantee, but it could point to Sony already being in talks to add the other programming options listed in the survey.

One factor that the survey doesn’t address could be one of the most important, at least according to several Reddit commenters: availability. PlayStation Vue is available on PS4 and PS3 consoles, Amazon Fire TV devices, ChromeCast, and iOS devices. This leaves out Apple TV users, but also Roku users who already have access to another similar service.

During the long period when PlayStation Vue was only available in limited cities, Sling TV offered fewer channels, but at least was able to offer them everywhere, and on more devices, including the Roku. The contractual deals required to offer so many channels on PlayStation Vue may have hamstrung Sony, but if device compatibility remains limited, the service could have a hard time increasing its user base.

Gravity Rush is the next PlayStation franchise to get the film treatment
Gravity Rush 2 Kat and Raven

Sony's PlayStation Productions film and television venture continues to ramp up, as a film based on the 2012 PlayStation Vita game Gravity Rush is in the works over at PlayStation Productions and Scott Free Productions, with a writer and director already attached.

According to Deadline, the adaptation is being directed by Anna Mastro (Secret Society of Second Born Royals) and written by Emily Jerome (Panopticon). However, the film's producers, distributor, and release window have all not been revealed just yet. For those unfamiliar with the Japanese PlayStation franchise, Gravity Rush follows a young woman named Kat with gravity-manipulating powers, who wakes up with amnesia in a city called Hekseville and has to defend it from a group of monsters called the Nevi. Gravity Rush was first released in 2012 for PlayStation Vita and was later ported to PlayStation 4 as a remaster. Gravity Rush 2 was released on PlayStation 4 in 2017.

The highlight of today's wave of indie game announcements was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. A new trailer for the game was released and confirmed that Master Splinter is playable. This is the first time he's been playable in a TMNT game, and his move set is packed with plenty of references to the show. A gameplay video with commentary that lasts nearly nine minutes was also uploaded and gave us our first good uncut look at how Shredder's Revenge will play. For fans of classic beat 'em up, specifically, the TMNT ones, Shredder's Revenge looks like it will be a blast from the past. It launches later this year.
Post Void

Soldiers infiltrating building in Modern Warfare.

In a surprising about-face, Microsoft announced that all Activision Blizzard games, including future Call of Duty releases, will continue to launch on PlayStation consoles even after any existing deals expire. Microsoft was reportedly already set to release Call of Duty games on other consoles through 2023.

Detailed in a blog post focused on Microsoft's approach to numerous app stores, the company committed to releasing games from its newly acquired publisher, Activision Blizzard, on platforms besides Xbox going forward. "To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation through the term of any existing agreement with Activision," reads the post. "And we have committed to Sony that we will also make them available on PlayStation beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love."
