Sling TV has already made cord-cutting a lot more comfortable for football fans with the recent addition of the NFL Network and RedZone, and now the company has announced that now those fans can get their college football fix with the addition of Pac-12 Networks. That’s great news if you love football, but it’s far from the only announcement Sling TV made on Thursday.

Starz and Starz Encore are also now joining the streaming service, available as an add-on pack. Unlike some other add-on packs, these channels are available to both Sling Blue and Sling Orange customers. Even better, in order to give customers a feel for the new channels, both are available for free to customers through September 14.

Multiple popular shows including Outlander, Ash vs. Evil Dead, and Powers are offered via the network, but that’s not all that the free preview has to offer. On September 10 at 9 p.m. Eastern, Star Wars: The Force Awakens makes its TV debut on Starz, allowing Sling TV customers to watch the movie for no additional cost other than their existing subscription.

“Starz is proud to join the Sling TV lineup and offer a new way of delivering accessibility to our quality premium pay TV programming outside of the traditional pay TV bundle,” Starz chief operation officer Jeffrey Hirsch said in a statement. “In addition to breakthrough original programming and fantastic exclusive first-run feature films, there is a great depth and breadth to the Starz and Starz Encore content offerings which we can showcase on the emerging Sling TV platform.”

Sling TV is also bringing a new way to watch for PC users. Since the launch of the platform, users have been able to watch Sling TV on their computers via a downloadable app, but on Thursday, the company announced a brand-new Windows 10 app, which will be available alongside the existing app, which will continue to be offered for users on older versions of Windows.

The new Windows 10 app offers Cortana voice integration, Live Tiles, and touch compatibility. It also features the new user interface that Sling TV first introduced in June on the Apple TV, which has since made its way to the service’s Roku app as well.

The six Pac-12 Networks channels are available as part of the Sports Extra package, now priced at $10 per month, only available for Sling Blue customers. In addition to the new channels, this package features ESPN, ESPN 2, and ESPN 3, as well as NFL RedZone, beIN Sports, Campus Insiders, Golf, Motors TV North America, Univision Deportes, and Outside Television.

Once the free Starz preview has run its course, Subscribers will be able to subscribe to the Starz add-on pack for $9 per month, on top of their existing subscription. The Windows 10 app is a free download from the Sling TV website.

We've written about how streaming video isn't a zero-sum game, despite all the headlines declaring that the Streaming Wars are in full swing. But that's not to say that churn — the act of a subscriber bailing — isn't very real. It is, and it's one of the main metrics streaming companies worry about.

This brings us to Sling TV. Parent company Dish just announced its first-quarter 2023 earnings and with it, new subscriber numbers for Sling TV. That gives us five full years of data — 21 total quarters. And that data is interesting for a couple of reasons.

Roku bets big on its own TV brand — but is it a good idea?
Roku Plus Series television in a living room setting.

Roku makes TVs now.

If reading that makes you feel a little confused, you aren't alone. So-called "Roku TVs" have been available to purchase for years, and essentially 75% of all new smart TVs in the U.S. run Roku. But while those TVs were powered by Roku's operating system -- the same system found in Roku streaming boxes and sticks -- the TVs themselves were built by Hisense, TCL, and a handful of other brands.

PC gamers are flocking to Windows 11, new Steam survey says
Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the Alienware 34 QD-OLED.

According to the latest Steam Hardware and Software Survey, more PC gamers are switching to using Windows 11. Although Windows 10 continues to top the charts, it's slowly losing users to Microsoft's newer operating system, as Windows 11 now compromises over a third of all operating systems in Steam's monthly survey.

It's happy news for Microsoft as Windows 11 continues to inch forward in the Steam Hardware Survey. While the survey doesn't include the software and hardware utilized by each and every gamer on the platform, it still shows us some significant averages. Microsoft has continued to push Windows 11 for new PCs, and the latest survey from Steam suggests that the effort is working.
