Belkin previews smart docks for Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab

belkin previews smart docks for samsung galaxy nexus and tab dsc 0019Belkin has focused much of its accessory line on Apple products, but with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab, the company is adding to its accessory arsenal with official docks and other accessories for the Samsung phone and tablet. We stopped by the Belkin booth at CES and got a tour of what the company has in store, including some cool docks that use gesture control.

For the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab, Belkin will be offering RoomService and RoomService Awake docking stations that are made specifically for those products and offer customized options. The RoomService dock works with a RoomService app on your Samsung tablet to open up any favorite app as soon as your device is docked. You could set it to automatically open up a recipe app for the device in the kitchen, or a Pandora app for the living room, etc. Even if your device is locked, the app will open as soon as the device is set into the dock.

This small bedside dock for your Samsung Galaxy Nexus automatically opens a large clock display when the device is docked. The clock display slowly dims as you (theoretically) go to sleep. If you want to check the time in the middle of the night, simply wave your hand in front of the phone and the display will light up again. The RoomService app offers alarm options allowing users to wake to a favorite playlist, and if they want to snooze, the same hand gesture will put the alarm into snooze mode. That part might be a little dangerous for heavy sleepers, but we like the idea of integrating easy gesture control into a bedside dock.

No word yet on an exact date for the official release of either of these, but we expect it to be in the latter half of this year.
