Kuhl air conditioners will soon be controlled by your smartphone

Kuhl Air Conditioner Friedrich Wi-Fi AdapterWith mobile gadgets getting all the high tech love, it’s rare to see innovation occur in some of the most basic household electronics. Case in point is the everyday air conditioner. They are still big and bulky, and we’ve yet to see fancy touchscreen functions in their designs. While this isn’t the most high tech piece of electronic, the FriedrichLink Wi-Fi adapter will now make your Kuhl air conditioners controllable by your iOS device.

The FriedrichLink Wi-Fi adapter can be attached to any existing Kuhl air conditioners — commercial and residential — is so you can control the temperature, timer, and power even when you’re not home. Think of the Nest Thermostat, but just for your A/C. This way, you can use your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch app to set the machine to start running minutes before you arrive home so the room is cooled when you walk in on a hot summer day.

The app will also allow you to schedule a cooling routine for the entire week if you know your town’s weather forecast. If you are going to be away for a weekend, you can also make sure the power is off to save energy. The company did not specify whether an app for non-iOS operating systems will come at a later date but if the product takes off well, we don’t see why not.

While there are no release date and pricing information at the moment, if you own a Kuhl air conditioner and want to be the first to know more about when the adapter hits stores, you can sign up for the news update at the official product page.

The Smart Remote X delivers one-touch control of your smart home
this smart remote can control almost any device you point at smartremote2

Remember the days before smartphones, when television remotes were bulky devices that burned through batteries with a vengeance? Universal remotes were a lifesaver -- though huge, they worked with nearly any TV and made it easy to control your VCR, TV, and, later, your DVD player from one source. Now most devices are controlled from your smartphone, but it can feel like every device has a different app. Sevenhugs has introduced a modern-day equivalent to those old-school remotes in the Smart Remote U and the Smart Remote X.

Both models are an evolution of the smart remote Sevenhugs first released in 2018. The magic of the Smart Remote X lies in its contextual interface. Sevenhugs calls this its "Point Mode" feature. The remote is built around the idea that you can point it at any compatible smart home device and the interface will automatically show the proper controls for it. The Smart Remote X uses an indoor positioning system that allows it to know where each smart device in the room is located.
