Malaysia Targets Bloggers

In a disturbing move, the Malaysian government has said it will invoke anti-terror laws against bloggers who insult Islam or the county’sking.   Although officials claim they’re not trying to stifle free speech on the Internet, the laws allow for a suspect to be detained indefinitely, without trial or charge. Onecommentator has already undergone police questioning following a complaint lodged by Malaysia’s governing party.   The government has asserted that the new rules are simply intended topush toward more moderation in Internet postings. Others, though, feel that the intention is to stop criticism of the government’s record.   One such critic, Raja Petra Kamarudin, editorof the popular Malaysia Today site, and a critic of the government, especially Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, voluntarily turned himselfin to police last Wednesday. He was to face questioning for mocking Islam and threatening racial harmony.   “I was alleged to have insulted the king, and also Islam and incite racialhatred, so I am going in there to reply to all these charges. I promise I’m going to give them a hell of a tough time,” he told the BBC. “Many people, especially the non-Malays in this country, do not have a forum to air their views.”

Walmart, Target, and other retailers compete with Amazon’s 48 hour Prime Day
walmart preps 50 a year shipping service to take on amazon prime

When the news finally dropped that the Amazon Prime Day sales extravaganza will begin July 15 and last 48 hours through July 16 PT, competitors have no choice but to respond in some fashion or fall by the wayside. Online retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, and Fry's Electronics will either have to beat or match Amazon Prime Day deals or risk falling behind.

We expect Amazon will have fabulous deals on smart home devices, TVs, and small kitchen appliances such as Instant Pots, as well as robot vacuums, laptops, tablets, and loads of products in every category.
The competitors
The news about Amazon's decision to extend Prime Day for 48 hours is still fresh, so other retailers may not have adapted, but you can bet they will make some sort of effort to stay relevant. The July 15 start date was pretty much common knowledge -- or at least an educated guess -- for months. Since Prime Day lasted 36 hours last year, the jump to 48 hours is not a shocker, mainly because Amazon did so well with Prime Day 2018.

American Lawn Mower Company 50514 — $139, was $160

The American Lawnmower Company has created a lawn mower that works well and isn't enormously heavy — a mere 20 pounds. With its 14-inch cutting width and absurdly low weight, you can zip through small jobs quickly and get back to whatever else it is that you'd prefer to be doing in a hurry. The only odd point, at least if you're coming from traditional lawn mowers, about the American Lawnmower Company 50514 is how it is a corded mower. This means you'll have to slightly adjust your mowing to be more like vacuuming with a corded vacuum. It also means that, even with an extension cord, you won't be able to stray too far from home with it. As a result of its weight and corded nature, the American Lawnmower Company 50514 is perfect for smaller homes (and people).
