Darth Vader uses the force to clean your dirty floors with Samsung's new vacuum

[Samsung] POWERbots in Space
It’s difficult to make household chores something to look forward to, but perhaps if you can pretend that you’re living in a galaxy far, far away, you can (temporarily) put aside your woes. Luckily, that is getting a lot easier thanks to Samsung’s introduction of the Star Wars limited edition Powerbot robot vacuum cleaner. The VR7000 vacuum comes complete with Darth Vader and Stormtrooper designs so that you can imagine that the bot is actually destroying (or saving) the universe as it cleans your floors.

Intended to drum up anticipation for the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the VR7000 features specially created covers to add to its aesthetic appeal. There is the Darth Vader version, whose cover (made with custom premium materials, of course) is meant to resemble the villain’s all-black mask. The Stormtrooper version, on the other hand, is meant to look like a white and black Stormtrooper helmet. Curiously enough, it’s the Darth Vader version that’s a little more advanced — that vacuum boasts Wi-Fi connectivity and its own remote control.

Both models, however, promise unique sound effects that one might expect from their respective characters. For example, when you turn the Darth Vader VR7000 on, the vacuum plays the trademark heavy breathing sound (which might not be what you want to hear before you set to cleaning your home).

Samsung noted that it worked closely with Star Wars super fans at every stage of production, engaging in a “first-of-its-kind approach to building and launching a product designed by the fans and built for the fans.”

As B.S. Suh, executive vice president of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, noted in a statement, “We are very pleased to be part of the excitement leading up to the release of the Last Jedi and to be launching our limited edition Powerbot in partnership with Star Wars fans. From its industry-leading suction power, slim design, and smart features, to the wonderful character-themed voice feedback and sound effects, we are confident the Star Wars limited edition of the VR7000 will be a big hit.”

Of course, these vacuums aren’t just gimmicks — both feature suction power capacity of 10 watts, CycloneForce technology, and Edge Clean Master, allowing the vacuums to work even closer to walls and around edges. It’s also an autonomous bot, so you don’t have to wait around for it, and its FullView Sensor 2.0 helps the bot clean around valuables as small as 10mm.

You can pre-order the Star Wars limited edition Powerbot at Samsung.com. The Darth Vader version will set you back $800, and the Storm Trooper will be $700.

Samsung’s new Smart Monitors bring the TV to your desk without the PC
samsung m5 m7 smart monitor press release dl3f

Capitalizing on the work-from-home era that's been accelerated by the global pandemic, Samsung's new Smart Monitors are designed to help you stay entertained and productive -- all without requiring the power of a PC or desktop. These monitors can be used as a stand-alone panel for video streaming  -- similar to a living room television -- or serve as companions to smartphones and tablets for wireless casting.

While Samsung's new M5 and M7 Smart Monitors function like any other desktop monitor by allowing you to connect a compatible PC or laptop via a USB-C or HDMI cable, these panels also come with built-in Wi-Fi, which enables several new tricks to help them stand out. The M5 and M7 come with smart TV apps borrowed from Samsung's lineup of living room televisions, integrated smart assistant features, and the ability to wirelessly cast to the screen via AirPlay 2 or Samsung DeX.

samsung jetbot smart mop also cleans walls windows jetmop

Samsung already has an existing line of robot vacuums capable of cleaning dirt and debris, but what about spills or perhaps something that'll give your hard surfaces at home a bit of shine and cleanliness? Samsung's Jetbot Mop is a smart mop capable of cleaning tile, vinyl, laminate, and hardwood floors -- plus it doubles as a handheld cleaner for walls and windows! The dual spinning pads clean and buff the floor, and the up-to-100-minute cleaning time means your floor will sparkle when the Jetbot finishes. The tanks automatically dispense fluid and only require a refill after 50 minutes of runtime.

The Jetbot Mop has smart sensors that allow it to navigate throughout your home and avoid obstacles like furniture and carpet. It's also designed to clean along edges to give a more complete, thorough clean. The truly surprising part of the Jetbot Mop is its versatility. In addition to cleaning floors, the Jetbot Mop can be switched to a handheld mode for cleaning your walls and windows. It's perfect for cleaning the tile in the bathroom or for wiping grime off windows.

How data helps robot vacuums clean your home with maximum efficiency
iRobot Roomba 900 series

Robotic vacuum cleaners are the perfect complement to a weekly or biweekly cleaning of the home. They can zip around during the day and keep your floors significantly cleaner than they would be otherwise. Best of all, most robot vacuums are set-it-and-forget-it. Once you program a cleaning schedule, they’re good to go, with little further input on your part.

Some higher-end robot vacuums actually learn the layout of your home and present it to you via a digital map. This map can then be used to designate areas that are off-limits to the device, specify areas for a more thorough cleaning, and much more.
