If you really want to, you can buy an at-home sensory deprivation tank. Companies such as Zen Float Company will sell you a heated tub that let you float in salt water and supposedly help you relax and meditate. At the Salon del Mobile in Milan this year, Starpool, an Italian spa manufacturer, showed of its Zerobody, a waterbed-like piece of furniture that tries to capture the same sense of floating without you having to get all wet.

The Zerobody uses a heated, liquid-filled mattress to make you feel like like you’re weightless. How exactly that works is a little unclear, as Starpool didn’t offer a lot of specifics beyond saying that body will stop regulating its temperature and start producing endorphins. The company collaborated with Neocogita, which develops cognitive training exercises. While you’re enveloped by the warmth, you’re supposed to listen to Nu Relax, a meditation app that enhances the experiences, according to Contemporist. There are also color-changing LEDs inside, though how they aid in sensory deprivation is unclear.

Isolation tanks were first developed by John C. Lilly, a neuropsychiatrist who mainly used them to as a way to study consciousness in the 1950s. (He also did a lot of research with LSD and dolphin communication, and sometimes these two overlapped.) These days, the tanks are mainly used as stress relief, and its proponents say it can help with pain and achieving new levels of consciousness.

Designed by Cristiano Mino, the Zerobody doesn’t have pricing or availability information at the moment, but we’ll keep you posted. Who knows? It might cost less than Zen Float Company’s $1,850 float tent.

How to save Ring Doorbell video without a subscription
Ring Doorbell mounted outside a front door.

Take a walk through any neighborhood, and you're bound to see a few Ring video doorbells installed next to front doors. The brand is increasingly popular, thanks to an ever-growing product lineup that makes it easy to find a device for all budgets and security needs. But one of the peskier features of Ring is the need for a Ring Protect Plan -- a monthly subscription service that unlocks the majority of the camera's most useful features.

One such feature locked behind a Ring Protect Plan membership is the ability to save Ring doorbell videos. Without a plan, you'll really only be allowed to view a live feed of your video doorbell. The plans are pretty generous, with the Basic plan costing $5 per month and offering video history for up to 180 days, making it a worthwhile investment for homes worried about their security.
