Your kids deserve farm-fresh lunches, and they can get them from TuckrBox

Pokémon Go may be at the forefront of getting our kids to go outside again, but as any health expert will tell you, activity is just half the battle when it comes to a healthful lifestyle. You are what you eat, after all, and now, there’s a new platform hoping to create a healthier generation through food and technology. Meet TuckrBox, branded as “the first farm-to-lunchbox meal delivery program for kids.”

With TuckrBox, kids will be able to exercise autonomy over their diets, and parents cam rest assured that meals will be local, fresh, and nutritious. The weekly subscription-based model allows kids to build their own weekly lunch menus via an app, while their parents frame the available choices by specifying dietary preferences and allergies.

All meals come with a main course and two sides, and children will be exposed to new foods that don’t come pre-packaged in plastic wrap, but are rather seasonal and crisp.

“Many kids today don’t come into contact with diverse foods and aren’t offered many choices of their own when it comes to deciding on meals,” the TuckrBox team noted. ” They develop preferences for unhealthy foods: sugary, salty, and high-fat, and lack the diversity that’s important in balanced, healthful diets.” And given that preferences that are developed early on in life tend to carry over into adulthood, the TuckrBox team believes that establishing healthy eating habits sooner rather than later is crucial.

While there are a number of health-conscious food delivery services meant for adults, the same attention isn’t being paid to children (yet). But TuckrBox is hoping to change that with their New York City launch later in 2016. And if you’re hoping to bring this project to a city near you, check out the team’s Indiegogo campaign, where you have a month to help TuckrBox meet its funding goal.

In today’s world -- with its emphasis on nutrition, health and wellness -- it’s not just the high-level athletes who are juggling a daily buffet of energy drinks and supplements to take care of their bodies. Wouldn’t it be easier if there was a simple, one-stop-shop to give you all the nutritional supplements you need? Wouldn’t it be great if said approach was similar to vaping, thereby fulfilling both health and hipster criteria in one? That is what a new startup named Nutriair claims to have created with its series of currently available inhalable nutrients, designed to enter the body through the process of micro-aerosolization.

There are 11 different Nutriair devices, promising to boost everything from your energy levels to your quality of sleep. “Each of the 11 has their own designated flavoring, and we have correlated the flavoring with the function,” CEO Josh Matzkin told Digital Trends. “For example, Nutriair Sleep has an earl grey taste to it, which is synonymous to peacefulness, [while] Nutriair Energy has a sweet mint flavoring to perk you up.”

Need to cut back on your salt? In-mouth sensor tracks sodium intake in real time

Keeping track of your sodium intake is very important if you’re among the 1 in 3 American adults who suffer from high blood pressure. Physicians will advise you to opt for low-salt options when it comes to choosing and eating food, but keeping track of exactly how much salt is passing your lips isn’t easy. That could soon change, however, thanks to a new electronic sensor developed by researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Their stretchable sodium-measuring device could possibly be embedded in a dental retainer, and used to provide highly sensitive, real-time monitoring of sodium intake. The information could then be sent directly to your phone or other mobile device to provide feedback, guidance, and -- if necessary -- the occasional admonishment.
