Acer Liquid Z6, Z6 Plus Android smartphones to hit stores outside U.S. late this year

Acer showed off two new Android smartphones at IFA in Berlin on Wednesday — the underwhelming midrange Liquid Z6, and the slightly higher-end Liquid Z6 Plus. Both devices run the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Acer’s embellishments on top, but there’s no word on whether they’ll get a release stateside.

The Acer Liquid Z6 Plus is the more interesting of the two. It’s fairly slim and stylish, sporting a 5.5-inch, full HD display. It also has a brushed metallic finish on the back. Under the hood, there’s an octa-core MediaTek 6753 processor, clocked at 1.3GHz and backed by 3GB of RAM. Storage is 32GB, with a Micro SD card slot for expansion. Battery life should be good because there’s a whopping 4,080mAh battery inside. The main camera is rated at 13-megapixels and there’s a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Acer has also included a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication.

The Acer Liquid Z6 is smaller, with a 5-inch HD display and a plastic body. It’s packing a quad-core MediaTek 6737 processor, clocked at 1.25GHz, and only has 1GB of RAM. The internal storage is just 8GB, but once again there is a Micro SD card slot for expansion. There’s also an 8-megapixel main camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, which won’t please selfie fans. The battery in the Z6 is less than half the capacity of its bigger brother, at 2,000mAh. It has a smaller screen and a lower 720p resolution.

Both of these phones are set for release in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. There’s no word on a U.S. release and it looks distinctly unlikely that they will be available stateside — the Liquid Z5 was never released in America. The Acer Liquid Z6 will cost 119 euros (around $130 U.S.) and it lands in November. The Acer Z6 Plus will set you back 250 euros (around $180) and it’s due to hit stores in December.

iPhone SE 4: news, rumored price, release date, and more
The Apple iPhone SE (2022) and Apple iPhone SE (2020) together.

While the spotlight always seems to be on Apple’s mainline iPhones, the iPhone SE is a great pick for those who are on a budget. If you want an iPhone that doesn't break the bank, the SE is the way to go.

The original iPhone SE came out in 2016, and then Apple revamped it in 2020 and 2022 by giving it some more modern hardware. The iPhone SE tends to get updated every two or so years rather than annually like the traditional iPhone. This means  that we should see a new iPhone SE 4 this year, but it’s not so cut-and-dried with this particular model.
