Bang & Olufsen Showcases Special Handset

Bang & Olufsen, a maker of high end consumer electronics, last week unveiled a signature series of limited edition cordless telephone handsets to celebrate its 80th birthday. The BeoCom 2 handset is priced at $1,000 for the more basic unit and $1,450 for a more limited edition which has unique patterns hand etched into the surface by Danish designer Bess Kristoffersen.

The limited edition BeoCom 2 handset, said Bang & Olufsen, will be available only in a run of 600 units, of which half will have the hand etched carvings. A new color specially developed for this series will be present on the exterior of the phones, and other features will include a unique shape, a unique ringing tone, caller id and a phonebook which can store up to 200 names and numbers.

“BeoCom 2 represents what our company strives to achieve — it is an everyday object, refined and transformed into the perfect combination of innovative design and state-of-the-art performance,” states Bang & Olufsen CEO, Torben Ballegaard Sorensen, in a statement. “The inspiration for all of our product concepts comes from a myriad of places — in this instance, it stems from the cutting edge technology of tomorrow, to the thoughts and actions of an artist inspired by nature herself.”

Nothing’s next phone may ignore the one thing that makes the Phone 1 special
The Nothing Phone 1 held in hand showing the Glyph Interface.

Nothing garnered a lot of attention with its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone 1. It’s quite evident that the phone’s Glyph Interface (aka the flashing lights on the back) differentiates it from any other handset on the market. However, those flashing lights may not be present on the company’s next smartphone. Yes, you read it right — Nothing’s next phone might miss out on the biggest selling feature of the Nothing Phone 1. At least, that's according to a new report from The Mobile Indian.

The report details that the rumored phone will be a Lite version of the Nothing Phone 1. At the moment, there’s no word about the name of this device. But it could be called Phone 1 Lite since it is supposed to be a slightly toned-down version. Surprisingly, Nothing isn’t expected to trim down on the hardware of this device. As indicated, the rumored phone will pack the same display, processor, and cameras.

The Pixel Watch may need its own special supporting app
Fossil Gen 5 Wear OS

The Pixel Watch is set to debut later this year and could be paired with a dedicated app. References to a Google Pixel Watch App were found by 9to5Google in a recent APK teardown, and while this doesn't necessarily confirm the app, there’s a possibility that such an app is in the works. If this is true, the standard Wear OS app could be replaced by a new Pixel Watch app for the upcoming smartwatch.

The app was referenced inside the latest beta update of Google Play Services. The report mentions a change expected to the Smart Lock features on Google devices, which will enable WearOS 3-powered smartwatches to unlock devices such as smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks. The feature was initially teased in January and may now be ready for release. It could have a similar implementation to Apple’s "unlock iPhone with Apple Watch" feature.

Galaxy S22 and Watch 4 get stunning new special editions that you can’t buy
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Diablo Edition

Samsung has announced new special-edition models of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Galaxy Watch 4 this week. As with most of the company's more extravagant Galaxy collaborations, both are Korea-exclusive devices. That limited availability isn't surprising, but when these special editions feature such appealing designs and extras, we can't help but wish they were more widely available.

The most exclusive special edition is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Already a very handsome and well-received phone, Samsung is collaborating with Blizzard to launch a tie-in model with the Diablo Immortal game. Korean publication Yonhap reports that this Diablo Immortal package comes with the Galaxy S22 Ultra you'd expect, a leather mousepad, a map, a Blizzard-designed lenticular image, a phone case, a wireless charging pad, a Blizzard Battlecoin card, a Spigen grip case, and a wooden box that holds the whole package. It's appealing, it's fancy, and you can only get the chance to buy one of the 100 models in existence by winning a lottery in a select mall in Korea. See what we mean about being exclusive?
