The best iPhone car mounts for 2020

Whether you’re navigating on a long road trip or curating your daily commuting playlist, having your phone accessible in a safe, hands-free way is essential. Not all car mounts are created equal, and there are plenty of disappointing phone-cradles on the market.

Our list will help steer you right for choosing the best mount to work for your car and phone to keep them working in perfect harmony, whether you prefer to mount your phone on the dashboard, in a vent, or elsewhere in your car.

iOttie Easy One Touch 4

Our top pick as the best iPhone car mount for most people is iOttie’s Easy One Touch 4. You can buy this mount to fit into an air vent, CD slot, or to be mounted on the dashboard or windshield. It has an excellent one-touch mechanism that allows you to close the mount or open it one-handed. Your iPhone is held securely by the arms and there are feet at the bottom, so it can’t fall. Importantly, you can adjust the height of the feet and there’s a telescopic arm that can extend and pivot. This level of adjustability allows the iOttie mount to accommodate any iPhone model with any case on, and you can always find the ideal angle. It’s a secure, solid mount at an affordable price, but iOttie also offers the same basic design with built-in Qi wireless charging for around $50 and if you’re a big fan of Alexa, check out the $70 iOttie Easy One Touch Connect, which allows you to use Alexa on your iPhone in the car hands-free.

ZeeHoo Wireless Charging Mount

If you own an iPhone 8 or later, your device is compatible with wireless charging. To combat the battery drainage that usually comes with running intensive location-tracking apps like Waze, the ZeeHoo wireless charging mount can keep your device running without any cables. But this isn’t an ordinary wireless charger — it supports 10W Qi Fast Charging, which is quicker than the usual 5W. Unlike most wireless charging mounts, the ZeeHoo mount has a more modernized, USB Type-C port.  The car-powered mount also features an automatic side clamp so you simply drop your phone on it and it’ll keep it in place on its own. With all the components that make up the mount, the base suction cup is surprisingly strong enough to hang onto most surfaces like windshields and dashboards.

IPOW Car Phone Mount

Reasonably priced and very effective, the IPOW Car Phone Mount has a strong suction cup on the base that will hold firm to your dashboard or windshield. It’s designed to be fully adjustable, so the cradle for your iPhone is connected via a ball socket that allows for any angle and both the clamp and arm can be adjusted and then tightened when you find your preferred position. The cradle has feet on the bottom with soft rubber padding to keep your phone safe and two arms with a spring mechanism that’s just enough to hold your iPhone securely, but still allows for quick and easy removal. There’s also a lever on the back for releasing the suction cup, and you can wash it to renew its effectiveness. This mount will fit most phones, and it’s perfect for iPhones of almost any size, from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone 11 Pro Max. There’s no built-in charging here, but you’ll find room between the feet to connect a cable for car chargers.

Moshi SnapTo Car Mount

One of the top names in the iPhone accessories field, Moshi does a great job of marrying form and function. The SnapTo clips into an air vent, or you can stick the dock mount directly on your dashboard. It’s a minimal design that relies upon a magnetic connection to hold your iPhone in place and it must be used in concert with a Moshi SnapTo case, which is sold separately and costs around $30 and up. With the right case, your iPhone will automatically and securely attach to the dock. Best of all, this dock is also a wireless charging pad capable of delivering up to 10W, so you can charge your iPhone while it’s docked; you just need an iPhone that supports Qi wireless charging, which means an iPhone 8 or later. It’s an expensive option and it requires you to buy a Moshi case, but for fans of this stylish brand, it’s a winner.

Beam Electronics Mount

No matter the iPhone size or how many bumps your car drives onto, the Beam Electronics Mount provides a secure grip on your device. Priced just under $10, this is a textbook vent mount and won’t break your wallet. It features a 360-degree rotatable pivot so you can adjust the mount to your liking. The cushioned side grips and vent clip prevent your iPhone and car from getting any scratches and scuffs with long-term usage. On the back is a one-click release button so you can seamlessly detach your device. If you’re looking for a car mount that’s small, wire-free, and compatible with iPhones of all sizes, the Beam Electronics Mount is a great option.

RoboQi Automatic Wireless Car Charger

The coolest thing about the RoboQi car charger is the automatically closing arms. When you put your iPhone on the charging pad, it depresses the sensor and the arms close by themselves to hug it tightly, but it requires power so you do have to start the car first. RoboQi provides a charging cable that plugs into the power socket in your car and has an extra USB to charge a second device. The RoboQi mount itself has a built-in Qi wireless charging pad that can deliver up to 10W, so it can charge the latest iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, as well as the previous generation and any other smartphone that supports Qi wireless charging. It’s a classic suction pad design so it can fit on the dashboard or windshield and there’s an air vent clip option in the box, too. You can adjust the angle and height easily, though, as with many adjustable arm mounts, you may need to tighten it from time to time. It’s a shame that you have to start the car for the arms to automatically close and we don’t like the lack of feet at the bottom to hold your iPhone in place, but this is an impressive package for the price.

WizGear Universal Air Vent Magnetic Car Mount

WizGear’s car mount is the one to go for if you want to save space and money. It will also save you some time when it comes to placing your iPhone on the mount, because there’s no fiddling with arms and you won’t have to remove your iPhone’s protective case. This mount doesn’t stick to the dash, or come with a holder for the phone, but instead clips onto your air vent. It holds your iPhone in place magnetically, without harming or interfering with any aspect of the phone. You can affix your iPhone to the mount by placing the included metal plate in your case — between the back of your phone and the case — or by placing the round magnetic plate on the back of your phone. You can then hold it in front of the mount and feel the magnetism pull it securely in. Once attached, both the phone and mount can be rotated or tilted to whatever angle you prefer.
