The OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R have finally arrived in the global market. OnePlus launched its latest smartphone in China on November 1, revealing a 6,000mAh battery and powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. Now, overseas customers can finally take advantage of these upgrades. Of course, one of the most competitive specs is battery life and charging, which can be enough to make or break a sale.
The OnePlus 12 lasted well into two days and offered multiple ways to top off its battery, but what about its successor? That 6,000mAh battery won’t charge itself. Here’s what you need to know about OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R charging options.
Does the OnePlus 13 have wireless charging?
Yes, the OnePlus 13 supports wireless charging. It features the same 50-watt wireless charging as its predecessor, an impressive achievement for a phone that costs much less than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The OnePlus 13 also supports 10W reverse wireless charging, which means it could serve as a backup battery for other wireless charging-compatible devices in a pinch. However, reverse wireless charging isn’t as efficient as its wired counterpart. At 10W, the OnePlus 13 can hardly match the wattage of its own wireless charging capabilities.
Reverse wireless charging should be saved for times when you aren’t anywhere near an electrical outlet or an external battery pack for small devices besides your phone. In that case, your OnePlus 13 can be used to charge electronic accessories like smartwatches and earbuds.
Wired charging is a viable method for charging your OnePlus 13, too. You don’t need to use wireless charging if you’re more comfortable with a cord. In fact, wired charging is faster most of the time.
The OnePlus 13 supports up to 80W wired charging via USB-C — nearly twice as much as its 50W wireless charging can manage. In its OnePlus 13 review, Digital Trends found that the OnePlus 13 can fully charge in about 36 minutes with its signature 100-watt SuperVOOC charger. However, when using a more common 100W charger like Anker’s 100W Prime GaN wall unit, it takes closer to 70 minutes.
The OnePlus 13 also supports 5W reverse wired charging. Similar to reverse wireless charging, it can charge other USB-C compatible devices with a cord. However, if the chargeable item also supports wireless charging, it’d be best to use that instead because the 10W reverse wireless charging is a smidge faster than 5W reverse wired option.
Does the OnePlus 13R have wireless charging?
The OnePlus 13R, the more affordable but less powerful version of the OnePlus 13, offers many of the same benefits as its counterpart. Sadly, that does not include wireless charging.
In Digital Trends’ OnePlus 13R review, we found the new, larger battery consistently lasted well into two days — maybe even three with modest usage. However, we also pointed out the OnePlus 13R’s less impressive charging speed compared to its predecessor.
The OnePlus 13R supports up to 55W wired charging, which is faster than most of the competition but disappointing in comparison to the 80W of the OnePlus 12R. That plus the absence of wireless charging could be a major dealbreaker for techies that demand faster charging speeds and more advanced charging capabilities. Still, the OnePlus 13R takes just under an hour to fully charge and can even go from 14% to 50% in just 15 minutes.
