Bacon, clinking glasses, and 72 other new emojis possibly coming soon

It’s an appropriate food choice for any occasion, so of course, it should be an appropriate text choice as well. And now, after months of teasing, the bacon emoji may finally be on its way. The Unicode Consortium, the body in charge of determining which little images make their way onto our phones (yes, that’s a real job for real people), has officially approved 74 new emojis as candidates for a mid-2016 release. Don’t get too excited — not all 74 emojis in question are guaranteed a coveted spot on your touchscreen keyboard — but at the very least, they’re in contention. The new emoji rollout would be part of iOS 10 when it finally hits the market, which is expected to be sometime in September.

The emoji, which has become an incredibly popular form of communication since it was first introduced to keyboards around five years ago, was recently named the world’s fastest-growing language, because apparently pictures really are worth a thousand words. And as the popularity of the emoji has grown, so too has the arsenal of available images.

While bacon may be the most anticipated of the bunch, the face palm, water polo, and a cucumber are also on the roster. There’s also the visual representation of ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing), as well as both second and third place medals (because participation is just as important as winning, guys).

There’s plenty of food on the list too (not just bacon, surprisingly), including the carrot, avocado, stuffed flatbread, shrimp, squid, and croissant — all the major food groups, obviously. Soon, you’ll actually be able to replace every word in the dictionary with an emoji.

You can check out the full list below, and thank the Consortium for elevating your level of texting. Because how did we ever communicate before without an icon of clinking glasses?

New iPads are coming soon, and they may have a killer display upgrade
iPad Pro 2020 Screen.

It seems new iPads, rocking some notable tweaks, are right around the corner. In the latest edition of his PowerOn newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says an updated lineup of iPad Pro models will likely arrive towards the end of March.
Now, these new flagship slates could turn out to be special for multiple reasons. The new iPad Pro tablets could get a refined design language and, of course, a shift to the latest-generation M3 processor that is already providing its firepower to a handful of Mac machines.

Folding the new Motorola razr.

Just a little over six months after Motorola launched its Razr (2022) folding phone, the company has confirmed that another Razr foldable is in the works. But not only that, it sounds like Motorola's next Razr will be here a lot sooner than we expected.

Speaking to CNBC, Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang said that a new version of the Motorola Razr will be released "very soon," while also noting that reception to the Razr foldable lineup has been "good." And compared to past versions of the Razr, Yang also went on to say that he thinks the new 2023 model is "much better."

Apple’s iOS 16.4 beta brings new emoji, web app notifications, and more
Sample of new emoji coming in iOS 16.4

Apple has just released the iOS 16.4 beta for developers and anyone else who wants a really early look at the new software. This is the first beta for iOS 16.4, following numerous releases for iOS 16.3.

The first highlighted items for iOS 16.4 are the new Unicode 15 emoji. These are the first new emoji in over a year. Some of these new emoji include a shaking face, pink heart, light blue heart, goose, donkey, angel wing, jellyfish, pea pod, ginger, folding hand fan, maracas, flute, and more. These new emoji additions were originally proposed in July 2022, and they were added to the Unicode standard in September 2022. It has taken a few months for these to get added to iOS because designers at Apple needed to create the icons with the information provided by the Unicode Consortium.
