The Google Pixel 4a will finally be revealed today

The Google Pixel 4a is finally on its way. You know, probably. After months of radio silence regarding the expected Pixel 4a, Google has posted a teaser for a new phone on its online store. The teaser suggests that the next Pixel device will go on sale Monday, August 3.

Google has also updated some of its social media channels with a small cutout, which seems like a reference to a hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera on the device. The company seems to reference the camera quality of its phones in the teaser. While at first glance, the teaser has a wall of Lorem Ipsum placeholder text, you can spot references to camera tech, like “lowlightena,” “megapixelum,” and “bokehus.”

The Pixel 4a release is overdue. The Pixel 3a was launched at Google I/O in May 2019, and many expected Google to announce the follow-up around the same time this year. That didn’t happen — and some were starting to think there wouldn’t be a Pixel 4a at all.

Of course, there have been plenty of rumors regarding the Pixel 4a, and it could be a great phone for the price. According to the rumors, the device will offer a 5.8-inch OLED display, along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor. It may also offer 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, along with a 12-megapixel camera. If the rumored price of $350 turns out to be true, the device could give the iPhone SE a serious run for its money in terms of value.

Apart from that, we’ll have to wait and see just what the Pixel 4a has to offer. The Pixel 3a was regarded as one of the best phones for the price, especially given the fact that it offers such a great camera and stripped-back software experience. Mid-range phones in general have been getting better, with the iPhone SE leading the pack. That’s thanks to the fact that the iPhone SE offers the same processor as the iPhone 11 Pro, in the body of an iPhone 8, and all for only $400. There’s also the Galaxy A series, including the Galaxy A51 and A71 5G.

The Android 15 logo on a smartphone.

Google has just released the first public beta build of Android 15, marking an end to the developer-focused test phase. The beta version’s release also means that Android 15 is finally in a state where it can be tried by the masses without people having to worry about too many bugs leaving their phone in a sorry state.

The first beta version of Android 15 doesn’t introduce a ton of new features, as most of the notable additions have already appeared in the Developer Preview builds. Google’s blog post, however, mentions the following features as the key highlights

Whatever you do, don’t buy the Google Pixel 7a right now
Google Pixel 7a in Snow in hand.

Google I/O 2024 is just a month away. We expect Android 15 to be shown off, and some hardware, too. In previous years, Google has used I/O to show off the latest for its Pixel A-series device. This year should give us the Google Pixel 8a, and we might even get a peek at what’s coming with the next-generation Pixel Fold 2.

The Google Pixel 7a launched last May, so it’s almost a year old now. At the time, while the 7a was mostly solid, the higher price made it a bit of an awkward recommendation, considering its specs and close positioning to the higher-end Pixel 7.

The Google Pixel 8a leaked again, and now I’m nervous
Pixel 7a back.

Just about everything regarding the Google Pixel 8a has leaked at this point. We've seen high-quality renders of the phone, its specs are everywhere online, and its release date is all but guaranteed. A new Pixel 8a leak appeared online today, and after seeing it, I'm feeling a bit nervous.

TechDroider on X (formerly Twitter) shared two hands-on photos of the Pixel 8a today, including pictures of the front and back of the phone. The back of the phone showcases a black color with a matte finish that looks quite good. We also get a clear view of the two rear cameras, the Google "G" logo in the middle, and the rounded corners.
