Juniper Systems, a maker of rugged handheld field computers, yesterday introduced the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0-based Archer Field PC. The handheld is powered by an Intel XScale 520Mhz processor.
The Archer Field PC, said Juniper Systems, meets a variety of protection standards for drops, vibrations, immersion, shock, humidity and operating temperatures. The case is made of magnesium and has an easy-to-grip molding. A rechargeable Li-Ion battery pack reportedly operates for more than 20 hours on one charge and recharges in less than four hours.
Other features of the Archer Field PC include a weight of 17 ounces, a communications module which provides USB host and client plus a 9-pin RS-232 serial port for use with peripheral devices, sealed CF and SDIO memory card slots and Windows Mobile applications such as Outlook and Internet Explorer.
