MOTOBLUR is coming to Verizon! Oh, right—and it’s on the Devour handset from Motorola, which is also going to be debuting on Verizon. Verizon Wireless and Motorola announced today that the Devour smartphone will be available from Verizon starting next month. This new Android phone is boasting some sweet—but fairly typical these days—features like a touch-sensitive optical directional pad, 3.1 inch capacitive touch screen display at HVGA resolution, aGPS support with device location and remote wipe support, pre-installed 8GB microSDHC card and Bluetooth with stereo audio support. Unfortunately, no word on multitouch capabilities yet–but we’re hoping the Nexus One update will follow onto other Android-powered handsets.

Pricing for the Devour has not yet been disclosed—updates to follow.

Verizon is shutting down its popular texting app. Here’s why
Verizon banner splashed across iPhone screen.

RCS messaging is the new hotness, and it's so popular that Verizon is shutting down its popular Verizon Messages and Message Plus apps. According to Verizon's FAQ page, the apps are being shut down because the company wants you to have "the best messaging experience."

In other words, now that RCS messaging is readily available between Android and iOS platforms, there's no need for a third-party application to fill in the gap. Verizon says that Google Messages provides an overall better experience, comes preloaded on all Verizon Android devices, and is able to interact with Apple Messages, too.

It looks like Motorola is finally fixing its software update problem
A render of the Motorola Moto G75 smartphone.

Motorola may be catching up to companies like Samsung and Google regarding the number of years of Android updates it provides for its smartphones. A new Motorola phone could come with five years of updates, and it represents the second Motorola phone to do so in as many months.

The recently announced Motorola Moto G75 will come with five Android OS upgrades and six years of security patches. By our count, this would mean that users will be able to update their phone to at least Android 19, considering that the Moto G75 ships with Android 14. Last month, it was announced that the Motorola Edge 50 Neo would include five years of OS upgrades and security patches.
