James Bond phone Sony Xperia TL debuts on AT&T, will make an appearance in ‘Skyfall’

sony xperia tl debuts on attToday, AT&T continued it’s mission to offer every phone imaginable. After nearly exhausting the Samsung line up, the mobile service provider has dipped into Sony’s pool and pulled out the Xperia TL. The handset was introduced as part of AT&T’s 4G LTE offerings and is touted as, “Sony’s best in mobile camera technology.”

From the looks of the specs on the Xperia TL, Sony isn’t messing around when it comes to image quality. The primary camera is a full 13 megapixels. This, of course, allows for 1080p video recording and what will hopefully be some impressive images. Owners will be able to view their videos and pictures on the 4.6-inch HD “Reality” display, which is powered by the BRAVIA Engine. Sony is promising video from the phone will translate to TV screens with ease through mobile high-definition links or wirelessly through DNLA.

While the camera and display seem to be AT&T’s main point of sale with the Xperia TL, the handset is also a step forward in NFC connectivity. The Sony-made phone will feature one-touch technology for sharing with other NFC devices. It also will interact with Sony “SmartTags.” These utilize near field communication and will change settings — based on user’s dictation — when interacted with. For example, you could set a SmartTag in your car to automatically turn on the Xperia TL’s GPS. Tap the phone on your dash (or wherever you put the tag) and your GPS will turn on. The Xperia TL will come with one SmartTag in the box with it.

There’s no word on when the Xperia TL will officially join the AT&T line up, though you’ll be able to see it in the upcoming Bond film Skyfall. Unless the secret agent take the phone apart or plugs it’s features, what you probably won’t see on the big screen is the Xperia TL’s 1.5GHz dual-core processor or Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. The device will get a free upgrade to 4.1 Jelly Bean after launch, but Bond will probably get that early.
