Yes, this $6,000 Lamborghini smartphone is as ridiculous as it is absurd

$6,000 for a smartphone is one pill that us commoners can’t swallow. Then again, Tonino Lamborghini’s 88 Tauri isn’t aimed at the regular Joe who likes to shop at Best Buy; it’s for the irregular Moe who shops at Armani and Cartier on a weekly basis.

Before diving too deep into this smartphone, let’s get this out of the way: it looks absolutely ridiculous. With the combination of a stitched leather finish and gold-, silver-, or black-plated stainless steel surrounding the phone, the 88 Tauri is sure to make you stand out in the crowd, for worse or for worse.

Assuming you’re crazy enough to throw $6,000 at the order screen for the 88 Tauri, you’ll get a decently powerful smartphone. A 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM, represents the smartphone’s beating heart. The 5-inch 1,920 x 1,080 pixel display shows Android 4.4 KitKat in all its glory, while the 64GB of internal storage will store plenty of pictures taken with the 20-megapixel camera on the back and 8-megapixel camera on the front.

You can expand storage up to 128GB, thanks to the MicroSD card slot, while the phone’s Dual SIM Dual Active LTE functionality keeps both SIM cards active at the same time. Finally, the beefy 3,400mAh battery should keep the 88 Tauri going from 0 to 60mph in under 5 seconds.

Tonino Lamborghini notes that only 1,947 units of each color, four colors in total, will be made. To that, we say thank goodness.

acer predator 6 gaming smartphone news 0475

Acer has gone gaming mad, expanding its existing Predator line of PC gaming gear out into mobile and coming up with an 8-inch tablet and this, the Predator 6 smartphone. "This will dominate any games you throw at it," an Acer executive said during the September 2015 press conference, where the phone was announced.

It won't be dominating anything much yet, because it's still a work in progress, but we got the chance to handle a prototype model. Although it wasn’t complete enough to activate, the time spent did give us a good idea of the final design and feel.

IFA 2015 proved to be another spectacular show for the coolest new tech, especially smartphones. Major manufacturers like Sony, Huawei, Lenovo, and ZTE were present, but we had a chance to check out some really cool stuff from lesser known brands as well. All of these companies came to Berlin with high expectations and something to brag about.

If it was innovation you were looking for, IFA had it. The first smartphones with a 4K display and Force Touch technology left us absolutely speechless. There was a lot to get excited about at this year's show, and these are the phones that grabbed our attention the most.

Look out, there’s another ridiculously thin phone coming soon, and it’ll be shown at MWC
gionee thinnest smartphone launch mwc2015 elife s5 1 6384

Chinese smartphone brand Gionee, already known for producing very slim smartphones, has let us know we should look out for another one in a few weeks time. A short press release on the company’s website says it’ll be revealing its “latest ultra-slim smartphones at Mobile World Congress,” and will be holding an event to celebrate the unveiling. The wording certainly suggests we should be on the look out for more than one thin device this time around.

Gionee’s not the only one making super-slim smartphones, and its record-breaking Elife S5.1 has been usurped by Oppo, Vivo, and Coolpad since its release, bringing the current target for claiming the title to 4.7mm thick. Gionee notes the competition, but says many are compromising on performance and function in the quest to make ever-slimmer phones.
