Untethered iOS 4.3.2 jailbreak released, no iPad 2 support yet

Apple outlaws can rejoice today over the news of an update to the popular jailbreak app, redsn0w, with untethered support for iOS 4.3.2. The jailbreak works on any Apple device that uses the current firmware version, with the exception — like other recently released jailbreaks — of the iPad 2. Everyone else — iPhone 3GS and 4, iPod Touch 3G and 4G, and the original iPad — is safe.

Relatively so, anyway. Some people are reporting on Dev-Team‘s website that they’re having issues with the new jailbreak. The practice is safe enough; if anything goes wrong, your device can generally be restored using iTunes, provided you haven’t monkeyed around too much with developer tools. These are available only with a jailbreak and they’re always clearly marked, so the margin for making accidental changes is pretty slim. That said, anyone who intends to jailbreak their Apple device really ought to have at least an intermediate understanding of such things.

The newly updated jailbreak actually makes use of the same hole that the previous one did. Dev-Team nods to Stefan Esser’s (@i0n1c on Twitter) work on the previous release in programming the workaround and later porting it over to this latest release. Unlockers — those who have their device set to work with a wireless carrier other than the one it was intended for — are advised to stay away from the jailbreak, as is always the case.

Max OS X and Windows versions of the 4.3.2 jailbreak are available on Dev-Team’s website. Given that some users are experiencing issues, you might want to hold off until Dev-Team releases another update.

You may have to wait a while longer for new iPads

Just days ago, the Chinese website IT Home said Apple would announce the launch of its 2024 iPads on Tuesday, March 26. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman — who still believes new iPads will arrive this spring — has debunked this rumor. In other words, we'll probably have to wait a little longer for new Apple tablets to arrive.

Gurman had previously stated that Apple's next-generation tablets would arrive in late March or April. Of the March 26 rumor, Gurman took to X, formerly Twitter, to say it was "not true."

YouTube TV just got even better on iPhones and iPads

If you use the most popular live-streaming service on an iPhone or iPad, things just got even better. YouTube TV — which boasts more than 8 million subscribers — just pushed multiview live on Apple's mobile devices, as previously promised.

It works basically the same way it does on a television. YouTube TV picks the programs available in multiview, and you get them all at once, with audio coming from one of the shows. Tap another, and the audio switches. And just as before, you can get multiview for sports, news, business, or weather. (Though we definitely don't recommend watching four news channels at once in an election year.) It's just in time for March Madness, which is great, though we hope you'll be able to pick your own games instead of just sticking with the multiple viewing options YouTube TV gives. This will be great come fall, though, when the new season of NFL Sunday Ticket takes hold.

The iPhone has so many clever and fun little features that it's easy to miss some of them. While the insanely powerful A17 Pro chip in Apple's flagship smartphone surely helps things along, this feature can be used on any iPhone with an A12 Bionic chip or later, which goes back to the 2018 iPhone XS and iPhone XR.
