Viddy’s growth has been seemingly unstoppable. After becoming a Facebook Timeline app a little over a month ago, the video-meets-filter app hasn’t slowed down. The Viddy community now boasts 10 million registered users (it had 1.5 million users less than 10 days ago) and has some new cash to line its pockets with.
Today Viddy announced a slew of names that will help it complete its Series A round of fundraising. Names like Twitter’s Biz Stone, Shakira, and Roc Nation. The list is a veritable who’s who, and while part of this endeavor is certainly to close out this series of funding, it’s also an attention grab.
“In terms of how funding will be allocated, Viddy’s focus right now is on explosive growth, building out an amazing product, and making sure that our community of Viddyographers from around the world can continue to share beautiful content from their mobile devices with the world” co-founder Brett O’Brien said via email. With big names come big fans, and Viddy is certainly going to win itself some new users thanks to this move.
While the company is being completely clear about its plans to continue its momentous growth, it’s not being up front about who exactly in the list of newly announced, well-known partners is an investor. It would seem that the celebrities of the group (Shakira, soccer star Gerard Pique) are simply backing with their names, but that’s just speculation.
Either way, Viddy’s managed to corner the social video market efficiently, and now we’ll wait for some competitors to try and ride its coattails.
