ZTE may be cooking up a smartphone with a 4,900mAh battery capacity

Hot on the heels of releasing its flagship-killer smartphone, the Axon 7, and an incredibly low-priced ZMax Pro, ZTE may be getting ready for a new device, but there’s a catch: It may only retail in China. Here’s everything we know so far.

Rumored specs

Specifications for a new smartphone have leaked on Chinese certification site TENAA with the model number ZTE BV0730. From what’s listed, this unnamed 5.5-inch device packs a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, and is powered by MediaTek’s MT6750 octa-core processor and has 3GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB of internal storage, but there’s a MicroSD card slot that can accept an addition 128GB.

We are unsure whether this information is accurate, so take it with a grain of salt.

It’s dimensions are 155 by 76.2 by 9.8 mm and weighs 189 g — that’s slightly larger and heavier than the ZTE Axon 7. It has a similar 8-megapixel front-facing camera as the Axon 7, but the rear camera is downgraded to 13-megapixels. It also has a fingerprint sensor on the back.

But what makes this device stand out the most is its gargantuan 4,900mAh. That completely eclipses the already sizable 3,250mAh battery on the Axon 7, and it’s a curious addition to a device with average specs.

The device runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but chances are it will come pre-loaded with ZTE’s MiFlavor Android skin, just like the Axon 7.

Design

The design of the smartphone from the images on TENAA’s site show a blend between ZTE’s Axon line, and the Nubia line. It features the familiar gold punch of the Axon 7 (there’s also a silver variant), but the front of the phone is more in line with the Nubia Z9. Notably, the circle on the bottom indicates that this device may indeed be a new addition to the Nubia line.

Other features like the square camera on the back carrying a more striking resemblance to ZTE’s Voyage series.

What we don’t know is the price of this device, whether it will be available outside of China, and when it will launch. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
