Turns out they will be here for us.

The Friends cast, that is.

On Friday, HBO Max announced the cast of Friends will have their long-awaited and much-anticipated reunion in May 2020. The special will kick off the launch of HBO’s newest streaming service.

All six cast members, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, are expected to appear in the “exclusive untitled unscripted special,” according to Variety. The bunch is also expected to be paid $2.5 million each, at least.

According to a press release sent to Digital Trends, the cast members will come together on the show’s original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, 15 years and nine months after Friends went off the air.

“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together,” said Kevin Reilly the chief content officer at HBO Max in a press release.

Friends left Netflix, its long-time home, this past December after the company paid a record $100 million to keep it for another year. WarnerMedia holds the rights to the show, and in 2018, rumors starting circling about the company’s plans to launch its own streaming service, causing an uproar from Netflix users.

Now, the day has come. Fans of Friends have been vocal about wanting a reunion — so much so that Aniston and other cast members have casually dropped hints on talk shows.

Jennifer Aniston on a Potential 'Friends' Reunion

Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane, who were long-time executive producers on the show, will return alongside director Ben Winston.

Ahead of the special’s debut and the streaming service’s launch, TBS announced it will run every episode of Friends on its network for the next four weeks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Last November, Vanity Fair reported the first initial rumors of a real-life Friends reunion taking place. Bob Greenblatt, WarnerMedia’s chairman, is said to have lead the push to give fans what they’ve been asking for. But wrangling each actor’s schedule seemed to be the biggest deterrent, despite all of them reportedly being on board with the plan.

Social media rejoiced Friday after the news broke, some speculating possible plotlines. Monica and Chandler’s children growing up. Who they may cast to play Ross and Rachel’s daughter Emma. Joey and Phoebe? Who knows.

Theories abound — but we won’t find out until May. At this point, the show has demonstrated to viewers over its 236 episodes that nothing is off-limits. Let’s just hope Ross and Rachel are not on another break.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 | Official Trailer | Max

HBO and Max may soon miss Larry David now that Curb Your Enthusiasm is coming to an end. Since the premiere of the 12th and final season, David's iconic comedy series has rocketed to the top of the most popular shows on Max. Meanwhile, True Detective: Night Country is holding on at no. 2 despite the fact that the season is already over. This suggests that audience interest remains high, which would explain why HBO was so quick to renew it.

3 (HBO) Max crime dramas you should watch in February 2024

For as long as HBO has been a brand, it's been associated, at least in part, with crime dramas. Everything from True Detective: Night Country to The Sopranos to The Wire has emerged from the network, and all those drama series live on Max now.

In addition to all of the great drama series on Max, though, the streaming service is also home to one of the deepest selections of crime movies you could ask for. There are plenty of great original titles that you can check out, as well as a deep library of movies that were wildly acclaimed during their initial runs in theaters. Here are three of the very best crime dramas on Max for you to check out:

This underrated HBO show from the 2000s has been forgotten. Here’s why you should watch it now

“Best of All Time” TV lists are now as common as the seasons changing, and they tend to highlight shows from relatively recent history. Old standbys such as The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Deadwood make their almost-default appearances on these lists, with the occasional inclusion of such genre fare as Battlestar Galactica. So where does that leave Big Love, Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer’s polygamist family drama, which aired on HBO from 2006-2011?
Its first two seasons aired following The Sopranos, and Big Love, similarly, seems to have been overshadowed in every contemporary discussion about the best of early 21st-century TV drama, despite its being a necessary part of any TV aficionado’s understanding of that form. It differs from its contemporaries in vital, interesting ways, but its bones and blood are made of the same attention to detail and appreciation of craft that made Breaking Bad, say, shine. In the age of the rewatch, when cable TV classics are making inroads among generations who missed them when they first appeared, where’s the love for Big Love in 2024?
Big Love has all the ingredients of a TV drama classic of the noughties

Start with the seemingly upstanding family man with a dark secret: Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton), proprietor of a Salt Lake City-based chain of home supply stores. In the pilot (aired in 2006), Bill goes about his business in his upstanding Mormon community, only to return home – surprise! – to three contiguous houses on a block in Sandy, Utah, where his three wives and seven children live as a closeted family cluster. (Mad Men recreates this dynamic beat for beat in its 2007 pilot, as Don Draper, a seemingly carefree, bed-hopping singleton about town in Manhattan, returns at the end of a day’s work to a wife and children in Ossining.)
Sandy has its requisite suspicious neighbors (like Hank on Breaking Bad or Stan on The Americans) who are certain not all is well on their block. And is there a patriarchal, devoutly focused crime family that runs its desert town almost unimpeded, à la Sons of Anarchy? Check! Harry Dean Stanton plays Roman Grant, father of Bill’s second wife (Chloe Sevigny). Roman is the leader of an extremist Mormon sect living on a compound in southern Utah, where Bill grew up -- until Roman kicked him out onto the street when Bill was 14. In 2006, Big Love was already playing with the dynamics and themes that had yet to launch its followers to TV immortality.
