Dwayne Johnson confirmed this week that David Hasselhoff will join the cast of the upcoming Baywatch movie, and he provided the confirmation in his usual, enthusiastic, and thoroughly entertaining way. Apparently, The Hoff and The Rock are going to make one heck of a team.
“Pleasure to officially welcome the original #BAYWATCH gangsta himself David Hasselhoff to our movie!” wrote Johnson on Facebook.
Johnson’s post included a video featuring the former wrestler and San Andreas star in the midst of a video chat with Hasselhoff about the film. At one point in the video, Hasselhoff excitedly tells Johnson he was “born ready” to be in the big-screen adaptation of the hit series.

“I WAS BORN READY!” Pleasure to officially welcome the original #BAYWATCH gangsta himself David Hasselhoff to our movie! #BAYWATCH is the most successful TV show of all time and from the day we announced we were turning it into a movie, “The Hoff” has been our greatest supporter. Especially once he knew our RATED R movie was going to be a combination of AVENGERS meets ANCHORMAN….Hoff’s a cool dude who’s down to have fun and here’s the best part.. He’s been training his ass off and gotten in the best shape he’s been in in years! (cue slo-mo running and glistening chest hair.. wait, why the f*ck am I even thinking about Hoff’s chest hair!?) World get ready.. #RockAndHoff #ThereAintNoBay #WithoutTheHoff

Calling the film a “combination of Avengers meets Anchorman,” Johnson said bringing Hasselhoff into the project was a high priority from the start.
“Hoff’s a cool dude who’s down to have fun,” wrote Johnson. “And here’s the best part: He’s been training his ass off and gotten in the best shape he’s been in in years! (cue slo-mo running and glistening chest hair.. wait, why the f*ck am I even thinking about Hoff’s chest hair!?) World get ready…”
Along with Johnson and Hasselhoff, the Baywatch movie is set to star Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Priyanka Chopra, and Hannibal Buress, with Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon helming the film.
The original Baywatch ran for nine seasons in syndication, along with another two seasons in spinoff form as Baywatch Hawaii. Hasselhoff starred in the series throughout its run, portraying L.A. County Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and also serving as a producer on the series behind the camera.
There’s currently no release date set for the Baywatch movie.
