Between the Streams: Comedian Eliza Skinner, Rogue One scare, lady wrestling

DT’s entertainment show, Between the Streams, is your guide to all of the hottest, most important, and (of course) dumbest new developments in streaming and entertainment, providing a handy recap of the week that was. (You can also add us via RSS, iTunes, or Stitcher at the links above to take BtS on the road!)

Comedian Eliza Skinner has bravely volunteered to join the fray as our first celebrity guest. A prolific writer, stand-up comedian, and rap battler extraordinaire, Eliza comes to our home base of Portland, Oregon, as part of the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, and she’s come by the studio to tell us what she’s been up to, make fun of us, and yell about silly movies and TV shows. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Eliza has written for and appeared on multiple TV shows, including Adam Ruins Everything and Totally Biased, and she currently has a gig as a writer for the red-hot Brit James Cordon on The Late Late Show.

After picking Eliza’s brain a bit (and hopefully convincing her to rap for us), topics for today’s show will include the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles abomination, and the sequel apocalypse that has become Hollywood.

We’ll also be discussing Netflix’s new women’s wrestling comedy based on GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling), a crazy series about over-the-top wrestlers, pitting good against hilarious evil, that ran for four seasons in the ’80s. The series even had its own horrible rap a la the Super Bowl Shuffle that is so epically bad — well, you just have to see it for yourself. Perhaps most notable about the series, apart from its very intriguing premise, is the fact that Orange is the New Black show creator Jenji Kohan will be producing.

There’s also Star Wars Rogue One reshoot rumors, and much more, so join us today at 2 p.m. PT, or take us with you for the weekend.

Ironheart flies over the water.

Marvel's next genius is Riri Williams, who sets out to build something iconic in the first trailer for Ironheart.

After first appearing in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, MIT student Riri (Dominique Thorne) returns to Chicago with plans to build an armor suit similar to the one worn by Tony Stark. Riri's quest leads her to Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos), aka The Hood, a mysterious figure who offers the young heroine a chance to complete her vision.

Superman grapples with his choices and actions in emotional trailer
Superman is escorted in handcuffs by several key characters.

Superman is a conflicted hero in the new trailer from DC Studios. Instead of speaking to Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) as Clark Kent, David Corenswet's titular hero partakes in an interview as Superman.

"Recently, you've come under a lot of fire," Lois says to Superman. While Superman believes he stopped a war, Lois counters by saying the Man of Steel illegally entered a country. When being pressed to consider the consequences, Superman screams, "People were going to die."

3 PBS shows you should watch in May 2025
The cast of Miss Austen.

It may seem like there's a shortage of original programming on PBS in May, but that's only because the supply of murder mystery shows from Europe has dried up for the month. There is still a new period drama, Miss Austen, as well as fresh installments of Great Performances, which brings Broadway and West End musicals to your home without costing you a thing. PBS is a public service, and you can watch it for free on your local channel or stream the shows online.

There's still plenty of time to catch the other new shows on PBS in May. You can even go back and revisit the great PBS shows to watch in April as well. For now, here are our recommendations for the three PBS shows you should watch in April.
