Big secrets revealed about The Big Bang Theory season 9 premiere

For Big Bang Theory fans who just can’t wait to find out, it appears Leonard and Penny will definitely have some happy news to celebrate soon. An interview with the show creators in The Hollywood Reporter (along with a series of exclusively-released photos) confirms the two will (spoiler alert) officially tie the knot in season 9.

The popular sitcom following a group of brilliant nerds and their attractive female neighbor-turned-friend-turned-more ended its eighth season with, well, a bang as Leonard (played by Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaye Cuoco-Sweeting) were en route to a quickie Vegas wedding. But there was a bit of a cliffhanger, as Penny discovers that Leonard (gasp!) kissed another woman while he was working overseas a few years earlier. Talk about an awkward drive.

Show creators Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Steve Molaro decided to ease fans’ minds by letting the cat out of the bag in advance of the season premiere so viewers felt they’d have something good to look forward.

“My fear was that it was going to start to sound like they didn’t [get married],” Molaro told The Hollywood Reporter. “That was not a positive message.”

The pair’s on again/off again love story has been an integral part of the show’s eight-season run as fans got to see if the geeky guy could really get the hot girl. The wedding ties a nice, big red bow around that story (hopefully), but it also leads to a number of questions: What implications will this have on the recently broken up relationship between Sheldon and Amy? How will their families feel about them eloping once they find out? And, most important, what will come of Leonard and Sheldon’s shared apartment – and almost marital relationship – that has been so key to the story up to this point?

What we do know about this season, in addition to, of course, the big nuptials, is that Mandy, the girl Leonard kissed that unfaithful, drunken night on a ship, will show up in the second episode, and hopefully resolve all of the issues between the newlyweds — or create a new riff to ride out until the end of the season.

The ninth season of The Big Bang Theory will commence on Monday, September 21 at 8 p.m. The show has already been renewed through to its 10th season the following year. Judging from these major leaps in the storyline, chances are that may be the last one. But there’s no word yet, so stay tuned.

Ryan Gosling soars into space to save the world in Project Hail Mary trailer
Ryan Gosling looks confused.

In the official trailer for Project Hail Mary, Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) makes one thing clear: He is not an astronaut. Yet this middle school science teacher is humanity's only hope.

The sun is dying, and because of Grace's background in molecular biology, he might be "the only scientist" who can save Earth. Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller) recruits Grace to join Project Hail Mary, a mission to explore a star 11.9 light-years away that could provide the answers humanity needs to ensure its survival. "If we do nothing, everything on this planet will go extinct," Stratt tells Grace.

7 most unnecessary sequels ever
Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix hold mics and smile in Joker: Folie à Deux."

It's common knowledge that many movie sequels fail to live up to the hype and quality of their predecessors. Film studios usually try to follow the money by making a follow-up to a movie that succeeded in theaters. However, filmmakers can't always replicate the magic of the original film, which has led to some lackluster sequels.

These films can bomb so spectacularly or miss the mark by so much that some even argue that they had no business existing at all. While almost any film can be deemed "unnecessary," there are many sequels to critically and commercially successful motion pictures that really didn't need to be made.

I’ve seen enough. Glen Powell is a better Running Man than Arnold Schwarzenegger
Glen Powell poses in a disguise in The Running Man.

Paramount Pictures revealed the first trailer for The Running Man, a dystopian action movie based on Stephen King's 1982 novel. Glen Powell headlines The Running Man, and despite the lack of footage, it's clear that his Ben Richards will be better than the one portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"Stop filming me!" Powell's Richards screams before an explosion launches the character off a bridge and into the water. In a near-future society, Ben faces a financial crisis. He needs a doctor to save his sick daughter. Because desperate times call for desperate measures, Ben enters The Running Man, a deadly competition where contestants ("Runners") must survive 30 days. During that timeframe, professional assassins ("Hunters") hunt the contestants down, intending to kill them. Survive and win the grand prize, or die and get nothing.
