What Happened: Well, you can finally exhale. After more than two weeks of that awful blackout, Disney and YouTube TV have finally buried the hatchet.

  • Your channels are back. ESPN, ABC, FX, Nat Geo… all of it.
  • This whole mess started on Halloween (October 30) when the last deal ran out. It got pretty ugly, with both sides blaming each other in public.
  • YouTube TV claimed Disney was threatening a blackout just to force a massive price hike onto all of us. Then Disney fired back, accusing YouTube TV of trying to use its huge size to get a special, cheap deal that no one else gets.
  • There was even a leaked Disney memo saying it had offered YouTube TV the same deal 500 other partners had, but that YouTube just refused.
  • After a ton of backlash, YouTube TV offered everyone a $20 credit, and then, finally, a new multi-year deal was signed.

Why Is This Important: This whole feud was a perfect, messy example of the new cold war in TV.

  • The content companies (like Disney) are fighting with the streaming platforms (like YouTube TV) over who gets the biggest slice of the pie.
  • And it’s a big pie. With YouTube TV already charging a steep $82 a month, everyone was terrified this would just lead to another price hike.
  • This deal is also a huge sigh of relief for sports fans and advertisers. Let’s be real, a lot of people only pay for YouTube TV so they can get ESPN and Monday Night Football.

Why Should I Care: So, what does this all mean for you? It’s simple: your channels are back.

  • Your sports are back. Your local news on ABC is back.
  • And the best part? No price hike has been announced… at least, not yet.

What’s Next: This new agreement is for multiple years, so we should have peace… for now. But don’t get too comfortable.

As streaming gets more expensive and ad money gets weird, this exact kind of fight between the companies that make the shows and the companies that stream them is absolutely going to happen again.

Spotify has removed more than half a million streams from Malcolm Todd’s song “Earrings” after finding suspected bot activity, according to a report by Financial Times.

The track, first released in 2024, suddenly rose to No. 1 on Spotify’s daily U.S. chart after a sharp jump in streams. At the same time, traders on prediction market Kalshi had been betting on whether Todd would land a No. 1 song on Spotify USA before the end of June. There is no suggestion Todd or his team were involved in any attempt to boost the song’s numbers. Kalshi has said it is investigating the matter.

Scary Movie 6 returned after more than a decade, and the gamble paid off at the box office. The sixth installment debuted to $55 million domestically, the best opening weekend in the series' history, and went on to gross over $215 million worldwide as of late June.

Ahead of the movie's June 5 theatrical release, Wayans Bros. Entertainment launched a website called Subservient Ghostface, where you type a command and watch the masked killer carry it out on screen. It's a clever campaign that borrows directly from Burger King's famous Subservient Chicken stunt from 2004, swapping the chicken suit for the horror icon Ghostface from Scream.
