We don’t typically post TV stuff, but thankfully this isn’t TV, it’s HBO. That might be a thin line, but this show is regarded as one of, if not the most anticipated new series of 2011, and trailer below is awesome, so watch it.
While fans continue to wait patiently for the next book in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series—or maybe not so patiently, but without much choice—they can soon get their fix when HBO debuts Game of Thrones, a new series that adapts the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire into a 10-episode season.
The first novel, also titled A Game of Thrones, follows the political and military machinations of the fictional continent of Westeros. Ned Stark (played by Sean Bean) is called to help his friend, the king (played by Mark Addy), as several players and forces subtly or violently attempt to seize power, even as a supernatural threat looms to the frozen north.
Loosely based on the historical era known as the War of the Roses, the book is the first of four currently available, with at least three more promised. Someday. Probably. The fifth book in the series, A Dance with Dragons has been “coming out this year” for the last five years. The forthcoming sixth and seventh books, titled The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring are said to end the series. If things go well, it is the producers’ hopes to adapt the entire series into multiple seasons over the next few years.
So for now, enjoy the trailer for Game of Thrones, and look for it on HBO on April 17.
