‘Inside Amy Schumer’ hasn’t been canceled, but don’t expect new episodes anytime soon

Amy Schumer gave her fans a scare when she tweeted out a message Wednesday that seemed to suggest that her Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer, had been canceled. She clarified her remarks Thursday, explaining that a fifth season is still coming, but that it may be a while. Take a moment to breathe a sigh of relief if you need to.

The comedian’s profile has clearly risen over the last year, boosted by her show’s first Emmy wins and the box office success of last year’s Trainwreck. Her schedule has apparently only gotten busier since. Not only did Schumer land a huge book deal, she teamed up with Jennifer Lawrence to co-write a screenplayhas signed on for a new Fox comedy, and is set to embark on a world tour, among other projects.

All of those commitments meant that something had to give, and in this case, that something was Inside Amy Schumer. When Schumer tweeted that they “[weren’t] making the show anymore” and that “there are no writers for it,” fans were understandably worried. However, her subsequent tweets made it clear that Inside Amy Schumer has not been canceled and that season 5 will come … eventually. In the meantime, she shared that she’ll be busy with stand-up shows, writing, and other projects.

#InsideAmySchumer is not cancelled. @ComedyCentral has provided us with a wonderful home and we couldn't be happier there. I am just touring

Doing Standup and focusing on writing more for the next year at least. We are slated for a season 5 but not in the foreseeable future.

I'm grateful @ComedyCentral is giving me this time to work on other projects. Now please grab my book #TheGirlWithTheLowerBackTattoo for now

While we wait for more Inside Amy Schumer in the months — or even years — to come, we can at least look forward to the comedian continuing to entertain us; her upcoming world tour kicks off in Europe on August 26 and runs through the end of the year, and she’ll also continue to appear on screens big and small. That should help when it comes to mitigating any disappointment caused by the Inside Amy Schumer hiatus.

Amy Schumer has shared the screen with a lot of high-profile actors and actresses over the course of her career so far, and it looks like she might be adding another well-known name to that list. Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn is in early talks to co-star as Schumer's mother in an upcoming 20th Century Fox comedy, according to THR.

The film, an action-comedy that focuses on a mother-daughter duo, has yet to cast its matriarch to play opposite Schumer, and Hawn seems like a perfect option. Not only does she have the comedic chops to pull it off, she can draw on her experience of being the mother of another high profile actress, Kate Hudson. Fans shouldn't get too excited about the prospect yet, though, as Hawn hasn't accepted the role.
