‘Inside Amy Schumer’ hasn’t been canceled, but don’t expect new episodes anytime soon

inside amy schumer cancellation rumors

Amy Schumer gave her fans a scare when she tweeted out a message Wednesday that seemed to suggest that her Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer, had been canceled. She clarified her remarks Thursday, explaining that a fifth season is still coming, but that it may be a while. Take a moment to breathe a sigh of relief if you need to.

The comedian’s profile has clearly risen over the last year, boosted by her show’s first Emmy wins and the box office success of last year’s Trainwreck. Her schedule has apparently only gotten busier since. Not only did Schumer land a huge book deal, she teamed up with Jennifer Lawrence to co-write a screenplayhas signed on for a new Fox comedy, and is set to embark on a world tour, among other projects.

All of those commitments meant that something had to give, and in this case, that something was Inside Amy Schumer. When Schumer tweeted that they “[weren’t] making the show anymore” and that “there are no writers for it,” fans were understandably worried. However, her subsequent tweets made it clear that Inside Amy Schumer has not been canceled and that season 5 will come … eventually. In the meantime, she shared that she’ll be busy with stand-up shows, writing, and other projects.

#InsideAmySchumer is not cancelled. @ComedyCentral has provided us with a wonderful home and we couldn't be happier there. I am just touring

Doing Standup and focusing on writing more for the next year at least. We are slated for a season 5 but not in the foreseeable future.

I'm grateful @ComedyCentral is giving me this time to work on other projects. Now please grab my book #TheGirlWithTheLowerBackTattoo for now

While we wait for more Inside Amy Schumer in the months — or even years — to come, we can at least look forward to the comedian continuing to entertain us; her upcoming world tour kicks off in Europe on August 26 and runs through the end of the year, and she’ll also continue to appear on screens big and small. That should help when it comes to mitigating any disappointment caused by the Inside Amy Schumer hiatus.

The best shows on Disney+ right now (April 2024)
An octopus and a diver interact in Secrets of the Octopus.

The good news for Disney+ subscribers is that there are new episodes of X-Men '97 and Star Wars: The Bad Batch throughout April and into early May. Beyond those two shows, older audiences are starved for new programing on Disney+ that isn't geared toward young children. And if you do have kids, then you may learn just how many times you can watch the same episodes of Bluey season 3 over and over again without going mad.

This month, National Geographic is the only option for new Disney+ shows if you don't have a Hulu subscription as well. On April 21, National Geographic is debuting the new three-part miniseries Secrets of the Octopus, which will make its streaming debut April 22 on Disney+. Additionally, National Geographic's Drain the Oceans has been added to Disney+ as well.
