Is Moana 2 streaming?

Moana rows with confidence in a scene from Moana 2.

Until earlier this year, Moana 2 wasn’t going to be a theatrical sequel. Instead, it was set up as a Moana animated series on Disney+. But since Disney is in dire need of an animated box office hit that wasn’t created by Pixar, the TV show was reshuffled into the film that’s currently playing in theaters.

Lin-Manuel Miranda — one of Disney’s most popular music collaborators of the past decade — did not return for the sequel. But his fellow songwriters Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i did come back to create new music for Moana 2. Most of the main cast members also returned, including Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui, Temuera Morrison as Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Rachel House as Tala, and Alan Tudyk as Hei Hei.

Now, it’s time to answer the question that brought you to this post.

Is Moana 2 streaming?

No. Say what you will about Walt Disney Pictures, but the company does tend to learn from its mistakes. Eventually. Disney’s animated films are the crown jewels of the studio, and it’s never had a true blockbuster hit with a movie that premiered theatrically day-and-date with its Disney+ debut. It’s just not going to happen anytime soon, if ever again.

Longtime box-office observers may have already noticed that Disney’s animation studio has been on a cold streak. If Wish was a bomb, then Strange World was a nuclear blast. Even Encanto didn’t find its audience until it went to Disney+. Pixar — the other animation studio within Disney’s corporate umbrella — had similar issues until Elemental had a solid showing in 2023 and Inside Out 2 became the highest-grossing film of 2024. Is Moana 2 going to be able to do the same thing for Disney’s original animated studio? The jury is still out on that one.

When will Moana 2 be available to stream?

Disney doesn’t have a set schedule to bring its movies to Disney+, but Inside Out 2 does give us a roadmap that may apply. That film arrived on Disney+ just over three months after its debut. It was also uncommonly successful at the box office, which probably lengthened its stay in theaters. Moana 2 will likely follow a similar path to streaming, which would put it on Disney+ near the end of February 2025 or the beginning of March 2025. In the unlikely event that Moana 2 bombs in theaters, it could have a quicker release on Disney+.

There may still be a push to bring Moana 2 to streaming sooner than usual simply because the first film has been such a phenomenal performer for Disney+. That may be shortsighted if it cuts into any Moana 2 Blu-ray sales ahead of its streaming debut. Regardless, this film was originally envisioned as a Disney+ project, so it’s only fitting that it return there after riding the waves at the box office.

First reactions to Daredevil: Born Again praise the return of Marvel’s dark hero
Daredevil stands in a lair in Daredevil: Born Again.

It's been nearly seven years since Netflix canceled the first Daredevil series after a three-season run. But as of next week, Daredevil: Born Again will officially restart the saga of Marvel's Man Without Fear, as Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reunites with his eternal adversary, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio).

The world premiere of the first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again took place earlier tonight, and the first reactions are coming in on social media. For the most part, the early word is very positive. However, more than a few mentioned some questionable CGI in the episodes. Regardless, seeing these actors back in their roles alongside most of the cast from the previous Daredevil series has lead to almost universal praise for their performances.

DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran share updates on Sgt. Rock, The Batman 2, Clayface, and more
Batman stands across from Catwoman and looks at her.

It's time for another State of the Union from DC Studios.
DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran provided updates on the company's upcoming projects with a group of journalists on February 21. The address comes two years after Gunn and Safran relaunched the DC Universe and announced plans for Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Starting in the film division, Safran stated DC's intention to release two live-action movies and one animated film per year. Last week, Daniel Craig departed Sgt. Rock, the upcoming superhero movie from director Luca Guadagnino and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes. Per Variety, Safran said DC "never met with Daniel," while Gunn noted that the duo "never announced the project."
Safran said Matt Reeves has not completed the full script for The Batman Part II, which moved release dates from October 2026 to October 2027. Speaking of the Batman Epic Crime Saga, the DC executives are unsure if The Penguin will return for season 2. Batman: The Brave and the Bold remains in active development, though Robert Pattinson will likely play that version of the Caped Crusader.
Safran confirmed that Clayface will be directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan. Casting has begun. Alan Tudyk, who voices the character in Harley Quinn and Creature Commandos, will not star in the live-action horror. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is halfway through production, while Ana Nogueira continues to work on a Teen Titans script. Swamp Thing is still in development with James Mangold, and The Authority remains far off.
Superman | Official Teaser Trailer
DC's television slate is highlighted by Peacemaker season 2 premiering in August. The Viola Davis-led series Waller is still in development after a "bumpy road" during production. Shows that are happening include Lanterns, which arrives in 2026, and a Blue Beetle animated series, which follows the events of the live-action movie. Paradise Lost and Booster Gold remain in development, though the latter moved on from its initial showrunner.
Finally, animation remains a priority for Gunn and Safran. Dynamic Duo, a movie about Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, remains in pre-production. Three “younger-skewing” animated series have been greenlit, including My Adventures with Green Lantern, DC Super Powers, and Starfire.
DC Studios' focus will soon shift to promoting and marketing Superman, opening in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Keanu Reeves says Constantine 2 is finally ready to go forward
Keanu Reeves in Constantine.

Twenty years ago this month, Keanu Reeves headlined Constantine, a theatrical adaptation of DC's Hellblazer comic about an occult investigator named John Constantine. Despite previous reports that a sequel was in the works, Constantine 2 has failed to escape Hollywood's development Hell. But according to Reeves, the sequel may finally be ready to go forward.

"We've been trying to make this film for over a decade,' Reeves told Inverse. "We just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'OK.' So, we're going to try and write a script."
