Thanksgiving is a holiday built on tradition. Some of the most popular traditions include home-cooked meals, football, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. One of the more underrated Thanksgiving traditions is the National Dog Show. While the event dates back to the late 1800s, the National Dog Show has been nationally televised on Thanksgiving for over two decades.

With over 200 breeds and varieties of dogs, the American Kennel Club will judge the canines by breed first. After a dog wins their breed, they move to the group level. Win the group level, and it’s onto the final round, where the dogs will compete for the top prize, Best in Show. Winning the National Dog Show also comes with $20,000. This year, 1,940 dogs from 205 breeds will be competing. Find out how to watch the 2024 National Dog Show.

An inflatable turkey stands above a buildingsign.

When Thanksgiving rolls around each year, there are always certain activities that go along with it. Of course, there's the mass consumption of food and eggnog. If you're into sports, well, there's football. But most homes in America like to welcome the turkey holiday by watching massive balloons float down Manhattan.

Yes, it's time for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, that annual celebration that involves balloons, singers, actors, and cheerful morning news anchors commenting on all the action. The parade celebrates its 98th birthday this year, but like fine wine, it just grows better with age.
