What’s new on Disney+ in April 2024

Asha, her goat Valentino, and the Wishing Star in Wish.
Walt Disney Pictures

For all of the hype around Disney+ adding Hulu to its hub, the latter isn’t the one that desperately needs the help. Hulu has a robust selection of new movies and shows every month. By comparison, Disney+’s lineup for April is particularly light. Combined, Hulu and Disney+ can compete with the other streamers, but Disney+ isn’t offering much incentive for subscribers on its own.

The biggest addition to Disney+ in April is Wish, the animated musical that kicked off the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney Pictures late last year. But for younger viewers, they may be more interested in new episodes of Bluey and Spidey and his Amazing Friends. Older fans will still have fresh episodes of X-Men ’97 and Star Wars: The Bad Batch throughout the month. And for nature lovers, there are new programs about tigers and octopuses. The National Geographic programming is always a better investment for Disney+ viewers than reality shows like Dance Moms, which is also on the schedule this month.

Our roundup of everything new on Disney+ in April 2024 can be found below, with our favorites highlighted in bold.

All the upcoming MCU movies we know about
Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool and Wolverine.

After a record-breaking string of hits through 2022, Marvel Studios hit a few serious roadblocks in 2023. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was rejected by audiences after its big opening, and The Marvels was an epic flop that lost a ton of money. You know there are problems when Marvel movies are performing like lower-tier DC films. Only Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was able to buck the trend and become a hit last year.

Because of the writers and actors strikes in 2023, Marvel was forced to cut back its 2024 films to a single movie: Deadpool & Wolverine. The good news for Marvel is that if anything can turn its fortunes around, it's an R-rated action comedy featuring the two biggest stars from 20th Century Fox's X-Men-related films: Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Beyond that, we're taking a look at all of the MCU movies that we know about. If Marvel's going to regain its previous heights, then the journey starts here.

5 things we want to see in Star Wars: The Acolyte
Dafne Keen as Jecki in Star Wars: The Acolyte.

Star Wars: The Acolyte aims to be one of the more unique additions to the Star Wars universe. This upcoming series will give audiences their first look into the world of the Jedi during the age of the High Republic. Specifically, it will follow the Jedi near the end of this era as they investigate a string of crimes that will have them uncover evil forces brewing in the shadows.

Due to the open-ended nature of this piece of Star Wars history, fans can only imagine what The Acolyte will add to the franchise. But until it premieres, here's hoping the show will feature these five things in its first season.
